Since the first day of on-campus learning, our Kindergarten students have wondered when they could play on the playground. Finally, on 18 April, 2022, the school welcomed our Early Years playmates to use the beautiful equipment!
This was terrific news for all Kindergarteners and teachers as the re-opening of the playground is not just about being able to play freely again but about development and growth. The children can now practice their motor, social, communication, and emotional skills in more ways and in a new environment.
Playtime at snack and recess is inseparable from developing gross and fine motor skills. The students get to explore not only the playground equipment but also what their bodies can and can’t do. This way, the student can gradually improve their motor skills to push the boundaries of their body.
Playing also encourages students’ social and communication skills as they interact with their friends and equipment. Here they learn how to share, take turns, be patient, and empathetic.
The playground brings the students joy that only it can provide. Our young learners are more balanced and more enthusiastic about the school day. Students and teachers alike are filled with joy to be using the outdoor space entirely.
In our current unit, How We Express Ourselves, Kindergarten students explore how people communicate in many ways. One way to express ourselves is to do experiments with new materials.
Term 4 Week 4, Kindergarten students conducted an exciting and straightforward colour change experiment. They used liquid milk, liquid soap, food colouring, and cotton buds to develop their thinking skills. The students were thrilled to see how the liquid poured into the milk moved to form a rainbow.
The next day, our scientists had the opportunity to build knowledge and skills through more experiments. They inquired about what materials could sink or float. They chose three objects and observed how they reacted to water. These explorations are a fun way to learn new things together!
