About our program

The GB BAND:  Fostering Music Growth, tradition and success.

The GBHS Band Program has a well-established reputation for excellence, which is built upon a strong foundation of hard work, dedication, and commitment from both our students and staff. We understand the importance of upholding this tradition and strive to instill in our students a sense of responsibility to carry it on with each new band year.

As a program, we believe in continually pushing the boundaries of music making and exploring new directions to ensure that our students have access to the best possible musical experiences. While we take pride and respect in our past achievements, we remain determined to reach new goals and pursue new opportunities. Our ultimate goal is to provide our students with a quality and equitable education that prepares them for success in an ever-changing world.

Aligned with the mission of the Grand Blanc Community Schools and the Grand Blanc Music Department, we are committed to developing each individual to their highest potential. We understand that this requires challenging and supporting our students to reach and exceed their goals, and we are dedicated to providing them with the tools and resources necessary to do so.

Through our Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Orchestra, and Advanced Orchestra, as well as our Marching Band, Pep Band, Orchestra Pit, Jazz Band, Winter Guard, Winter Drumline, Symphony Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles, we offer a diverse range of musical experiences that cater to the interests and abilities of all our students. Our student leadership program further provides opportunities for students to develop organizational and interpersonal skills, while private study and exploration of new directions in musical growth are actively encouraged.

Overall, the GBHS Band Program is committed to fostering the greatest possible musical growth and experiences for our students, while upholding our longstanding tradition of excellence and preparing them for success in all aspects of their lives.

It is the mission of the Grand Blanc Community Schools and the Grand Blanc Music Department, as an innovative leader in providing quality and equitable education, to develop all individuals to their highest potential for living in an ever changing world.

All students involved in our program will be pushed and stretched to reach and obtain their goals.

In orchestra, we look to foster the greatest musical growth and experiences we can for all of our students. We look to create a rich tradition of great music-making within Grand Blanc.  Our students will play well, develop listening skills and sensitivity, and most importantly,  express themselves and fall in love with music.

Our instrumental music program at this institution takes great pride in offering our students the best opportunities to grow musically. We firmly believe that the core of our program, which includes the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Orchestra, and Advanced Orchestra, is where our students experience the greatest growth and most memorable musical experiences. Our program's success in music making is a result of our consistent receipt of superior ratings at all Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association Festivals, which speaks to the quality of our teaching and the dedication of our students.

At the heart of our teaching philosophy is the emphasis on developing strong playing skills, listening skills, sensitivity, and self-expression. Our goal is to inspire a love of music in our students, and to achieve this, we prioritize fostering their musical growth and personal development. Our students are also able to take part in other musical experiences that go beyond the core program, including Marching Band, Pep Band, Orchestra Pit, Jazz Band, Winter Guard, Winter Drumline, Symphony Orchestra, and various chamber ensembles. These diverse opportunities allow our students to explore different genres of music and to develop their skills in different settings.

The student leadership program is another aspect of our program that allows our students to develop organizational and interpersonal skills. We encourage our students to pursue private study and explore new directions in their musical growth, and we provide them with the necessary resources and support to help them reach their full potential. Ultimately, our program serves as a platform for our students' success, and we take great pride in the accomplishments of our alumni, many of whom have gone on to pursue successful careers in the music industry.

The GBHS Instrumental Music Program is a robust program that offers a wide range of opportunities for students to explore their musical interests and passions. Whether they are interested in playing in a large ensemble, such as the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Concert Orchestra, and Advanced Orchestra, or prefer to join one of our smaller ensembles, such as Jazz Band or Chamber Ensembles, there is something for everyone.

At the heart of our program is the desire to see all of our students succeed. We recognize that this can only happen when students are challenged and pushed to reach new heights in their musicianship. Our faculty and staff work closely with students to develop their skills, cultivate a love for music, and create an environment that encourages growth and exploration.

The success of our program is due in large part to the collaborative efforts of our community. Our students are motivated and driven to succeed, our parents are supportive and invested in their children's success, and our staff and administrators work tirelessly to ensure that our program continues to thrive. Together, we create a magical experience that enriches the lives of all involved.

We are proud of the many accomplishments of our program and the impact it has had on the lives of our students. We are committed to continuing to push our students to new heights and providing them with opportunities to grow and excel as musicians. Whether a student is just beginning their musical journey or is an experienced musician, we welcome them to become a part of the vibrant and supportive community that is the GBHS Instrumental Music Program.
