What if I am not sure I want to do band?
Do you remember when you were a little kiddo and you didn't want to try new foods? Your parents would say, "Just give it a try before you decide you don't like it." Well, high school band is just like that! Even if you're unsure about joining, we encourage you to give it a shot. High school band is totally different from middle school band, and you might find that you love it even more! And hey, if after your first year you decide that band isn't for you, no worries. You don't have to re-enroll for your second year. We want you to feel comfortable and enjoy your high school experience. So, let's make some sweet music together!.
How is band different at the high school
While the actual act of playing your instrument is similar, the social network and safety net that the high school band provides is very different from middle school. From day one, you will be musically and personally mentored by successful upperclassmen who have a vested interest in their success. They will have dozens of new and like-minded friends before school even begins and have experiences that are unlike anything they have experienced in middle school.
Can I do band and play sports?
If you are in a day band, then YES! There might be occasional conflicts, but know that our faculty works hard to resolve as many conflicts as possible before they occur and to work collaboratively to solve them when they arise.
How much out of school time is required?
Many ensembles have different requirements for participation. Some ensembles require very little (less than standard homework),while other ensembles require a more substantial commitment. Generally, the greater the level of commitment, the greater the reward and memories. Regardless of the ensemble, a year-long calendar will be provided well in advance to help you plan for these events.
what are the costs?
The costs associated with band depend on which ensembles your child participates in and what events they participate in. The band boosters and staff work together to provide fundraising opportunities for each and every child and ensure that no one is excluded due to financial issues. There is NO COST to enroll in Concert Band.
What band do I sign up for?
All incoming students should register for Concert Band Woodwinds or Concert Band Brass/Percussion. If a schedule change is required based on their musical skill sets, we will make the change for you.
Can I take band all 4 years and graduate and get into college?
YES! There is plenty of room in your schedule to take band for four years. We even have students right now taking two band classes at once!
We want you to stay in band with us as you transition to high school. We value your talents and contributions to the band and hope that you will continue to be a part of our musical community. We are always looking for dedicated and enthusiastic students who are eager to learn and grow, and we believe that you have the potential to make a real difference in our band. So make sure to sign up for band, and let's make some great music together!
