Pre-Band Camp

PRE-BAND CAMP is JULY 22nd - July 26th, 2024

Dear Marching Band Students and Parents -

I hope you are all doing well, and I hope you are excited for Pre-Camp! Pre-Camp is a busy week for everyone while we do our final preparations for band camp. There is so much to get done, and the page is meant to be a reminder for everything happening this coming week.  Please make sure you read through this pages and let us know if you have any questions!  Thank you!

2024 Health Forms

PARENTS! Please make sure that you fill out our 2024 Health Form for your student. This form was sent out to everyone on Sunday, July 2nd. If you missed that e-mail, you can click on the link below to take you to that form, and you can complete it online. Thank you!

*** PLEASE BE ADVISED, THIS SCHEDULE COULD CHANGE AT ANY GIVEN TIME. WE WILL DO OUR VERY BEST TO GIVE YOU AS MUCH ADVANCED NOTICE AS POSSIBLE ***

Rehearsal Schedule:

Winds, Guard and Percussion: 5:00-9:00pm

Throughout the week we will spend time reviewing material (music and marching) that we covered at spring rehearsals and summer sectionals, but a majority of the time will be spent learning new material. Not only do we plan to ensemble the opener (winds & percussion) we also plan to learn a few sets of drill as well! Please plan to be on time every day and prepared to work. Any absence must be pre-approved by Mr. Tripp or Mr. Klee.

From this point on, all marching band rehearsals are MANDATORY and part of your marching band GRADE. In order for us to progress as a group, we really need everyone to be at rehearsals.

Picture Day is Thursday, July 25th

A full band picture will be taken on Thursday, July 25th

SENIORS: Please report to the band room at 2:45 PM to get into uniform. Individual pictures will be taken at this time.

All Band Members: Please report to the band room at 4:00 PM to get into uniform. There will be parents to help if needed.

Uniform fitting, shoe and glove sizing information:

We will be fitting all wind and percussion members for uniforms the week of pre-camp.  (Color guard will not be fitted this week) All uniform fittings will take place in the HS BAND ROOM.  Please plan on being there for about 1 hour to fit all the pieces of your uniform.  For us to be as productive as possible, the schedule is as follows:

Returning Members:   Please come prepared to try on all of your current uniform parts, including shoes and gloves. They will be available in the band room. If needed, shoes and gloves can be ordered at this time.

Freshmen and New Members: Please come dressed in athletic shorts or thin sweat pants/tights/leggings and a t-shirt to make sure your uniform fits properly, as this is what you will wear for performances. No jeans, bulky sweatpants, or hoodies can be worn under the uniform. All hair must be above the collar of your jacket (they are high-neck collars) for performances. If your hair is longer, it will be helpful to come with your hair up in a top knot bun in order to fit your hat properly.

We provide a jacket, bib overall pants, hat, gauntlets (wrist guards), and a raincoat. We will fit you for gloves and shoes at this time. You will need to provide your own crew length black socks for performances.

Uniforms will be stored at school while not in use.

What we expect from the members.

We expect all members of the GBHS Marching Band to be a few minutes early to all rehearsals. This is to make sure that we stay with our agenda for the rehearsal and to let you focus on what you are about to do. This is what I call a “quality” rehearsal vs. a “quantity” rehearsal.

When a rehearsal is about to begin, members are expected to be in the assigned block or arc ready to focus. This means that you have come to rehearsal on time, mentally ready to perform, with all equipment, and in proper attire for rehearsal. All restroom issues should have been taken care of prior to rehearsal. This is not to say that we won’t let you go to the restroom, but we’re not going to make a habit of leaving a rehearsal and you losing valuable information.

We expect you to come to rehearsal excited with enthusiasm and hyped for a great rehearsal. We want you to enjoy coming to rehearsal!

What to Bring at Every Rehearsal

Chromebook

Pencil

Music Binder

Water container with name on it

Shoes (Good quality tennis shoes, not flip flops)

Any other items your individual section requires.
