Renaissance Festival Fundraiser
Fantastic Fundraising Opportunity
We have a fantastic fundraising opportunity of volunteering at the Renaissance Festival this year! We will be working two food booths at the festival (one for drinks, one for turkey legs). The benefit to the program we will 14% of the profits at the end of the season. This should be significant dollars for the program and we are excited to have the opportunity.
Our Commitment
Our commitment is that we will work both booths for the duration of the season beginning on 8/17/2024 and ending 9/29/2024. It is a total of 7 weekends plus Labor Day, and Friday September 29th which is their Seniors day. The goal will be 5 people for each booth, which means we are looking for 17 people per day. Families can have 'family representatives' to work a shift for you. Since the kids will have practice on Saturday, it will largely be parent volunteers on Saturdays, and then we are hoping to have some of the students join on Sunday. Please keep in mind, it does not have to specifically be all band parents/participants that work the booth. If anyone has a couple of friends that you wish to work with you and then you can go and enjoy the fair before or after, go for it. Admission to the fair is covered, so take advantage of it!
FREE FOOD AND DRINKS
They will also provide everyone lunch and water on the day that you work.
$30,000+
We understand this is a bigger ask, but it also comes with a bigger reward in that we are expecting this will pull in $30k for the program. There are multiple upcoming expenses we are planning for over the next couple of years, so this will go a long way to cover those.
Where is this?
12600 Dixie Hwy
Holly Mi, 48442
Please arrive at 8:00am for your shift. The best place to park will be the employee parking which is directly across from the main entrance. If you go through the main entrance, if anyone asks, tell them you are volunteering in Area 400. The circled area above in red is our area. It is the row of buildings in front of the jousting field.
Parking Passes
Parking passes will need to be shared among the group. If you have received a blank parking pass, please do not put your personal information on the ticket. Instead, it should be genericized so we can share them as needed. Therefore, for name, please enter GB Bands. Area is 400. License plate should be left blank, phone number, please put Mark Yost's number which is 810.348.1190. In the event he is contacted, he will reach out to whomever is working that day to address as needed.
What are we doing?
We will be working and operating 2 booths this year!
Turkey legs: Cook, serve, clean up after (cash and/or credit).
Soda: Keeping cold, stocking and selling (cash and/or credit).
We need 2 people up front for both booths and enough people in the back to stock and cook. With enough people signed up for the day, it will go fast and everyone can enjoy some time at the fair!
FOOD SAFETY AND INSTRUCTIONS
Notices:
We are going to be working with raw turkey so it is necessary that you keep yourself & the customers safe. We are required to wash our hands frequently, wear gloves when handling food and keep long hair up (hair clip, pony tail, hats, etc )
TURKEY LEGS
-Upon arrival, we immediately start cooking the turkey legs. (takes 45+ minutes to cook to the safe serving temperature of 165 degrees)
-Once a batch of turkey legs is done we will start another batch and wrap the cooked batch with foil.
-We will then put the cooked turkey legs in the hot food holding area to be sold to our customers
SODA (POP)
-Make sure that all of the coolers & fridges are stocked with ice and cold pops to be sold to our customers
-Continuously rotate beverages to ensure that they are cold when sold
(people will come back to our booth if they know our stuff is COLD)
WHAT DO I WEAR?
You can dress in a full renaissance costume (this is encouraged for anyone who would like to work up front- we are to be ‘Renaissance Era Peasants’ - we’re not allowed to dress as ‘middle class’ or ‘royalty’). If you don’t want to dress up, you may wear a solid color shirt/hoodie with NO graphics on them. Pants don’t matter as much because they will not really be seen by our customers.
Important Money Handling Information
We are working with an open cash tray, a credit card machine, and a large bill drop box.
No purses, bags, or cell phones are allowed in the front of the booth at any time. (Where customers can see you - They may be stored in the back, if you choose to bring them with you)
There will be ONE ‘cash runner’ and ONE ‘change runner’ assigned to our booths. They will be in an orange or green t-shirt and they will likely introduce themselves so we know who they are. These people are the ONLY ones allowed to take our money
There will also be undercover monitors who will be watching our booth throughout the day, whether we know it or not, and they will be watching for anyone that looks like they may be exhibiting suspicious behavior around the money tray.

‘Hawking’ is strongly encouraged! What is Hawking, you ask? Advertising our products! Yelling to the patrons - “come get your turkey legs, here”, “you, M’lord, look hungry…how about a delicious turkey leg?”, “Thirsty - get your ice cold pop, here M’lady”, etc. They ENCOURAGE us to get creative with our hawking. We are also encouraged to be LOUD & boisterous - like they did back in the days of the Renaissance - to attract customers to our booths.
