PENGENALAN

Sejak tahun 1991 Pameran Terbuka Galeri Shah Alam (PTGSA) adalah pameran tetap tahunan yang dilaksanakan oleh Yayasan Seni Selangor Galeri Shah Alam. Pameran ini adalah cetusan idea daripada Allahyarham Ahmad Khalid Dato’ Yusoff mantan Pengarah GSA pada 1991 hingga 1996. Peragaan PTGSA ini telah memberi peluang kepada pelukis junior, senior malah master artists untuk menyertainya disamping menambah dan mengemas kini trek biodata tahunan profil peribadi perupa.

Anugerah Insentif diperkenalkan pada tahun 1993 dan ini adalah satu penghargaan malah pengiktirafan kepada setiap penerima Anugerah Insentif, (Anugerah ini dinobatkan untuk 5 peserta PTGSA disampaikan bersama Sijil Anugerah Insentif beserta wang sejumlah RM2,500) yang menghasilkan karya-karya artistik pada tahun semasa. Pengiktirafan dan pemilihan ini di dipersetujui bersama juri-juri professional yang terdiri dari pelopor, penggiat dan pengkritik seni terutamanya yang mahir serta pakar dalam bidang seni visual.

ABSTRAK

INSAN Definisi : Manusia – kamil manusia yang sempurna (baik, bersih daripada noda) menerusi Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka.

Insan seni istilah bagi setiap seorang pelukis malahan penggiat seni, menerusi visual, muzik dan sebagainya yang menghasilkan sebuah karya positif atau sebaliknya, karya seni diilhamkan menerusi pemikiran ideologi, pengalaman, kisah naratif malahan sejarah oleh setiap individu (perorangan) yang bergelar khalifah dan manusia. Akronim Insan + Tif di gabungkan yakni “positif” yang terbaik dan manfaat serta “bernilai” dilihat dari setiap keberhasilan sebuah karya.

Meraikan penerima-penerima Anugerah Insentif.
Mengekalkan hubungan ukhuwah dan jaringan utuh bersama artists.
Semarak seni Sambutan Mutiara 3 dekad Galeri Shah Alam.
Menerus dan mengekalkan tradisi anjuran PTGSA.
Kepelbagaian pameran anjuran seni GSA.

In the past 30 years, Gallery Shah Alam (GSA) has made an admirable achievement through their Open Show Gallery Shah Alam an annual award-winning competition. As the brain child of the late Ahmad Khalid Dato’ Yusoff, former director general of Gallery Shah Alam (1991-1996) spearheads the Open Show Gallery Shah Alam to repercussion GSA as a pivotal role in Selangor state by providing an inclusive platform to cater artists from diverse background. Open Show GSA benefited not only fresh graduates, emerging, peripheral but also mid-career and established artists. Although GSA has to endure limited annual budget, but started at 1995 Open Show GSA able to tackle sufficient prizes for award winners and never failed to thrived annually since 1991 until today.

This year marks a significant year to rearview 30 years trajectory of Open Show GSA. Despite the artists and galleries are facing bodily, socially, movement and spatial experience restriction under Movement Control Order (MCO) and New Normal SOP, the GSA curatorial team adapted virtual exhibition strategy without hesitation and themed up INSANTIF exhibition for Open Show Gallery Shah Alam’s 30 years the Pearl Anniversary. 18 past’s winners from year 1991 to 2018 are invited to exhibit their latest artworks at INSANTIF virtual exhibition. The curatorial team coin up both words: “INSAN” and “INSENTIF”. Insan means human from Bahasa where curatorial team wish to consolidate the compassion and solidarity to the hardship of the people who suffer from the consequences of pandemic Covid-19 through artists’ expression. Incentive is another word from insentif in Bahasa. INSANTIF is a great move by GSA to elevate Open Show to a greater meaning instead of just literally promoting and profiling artists. It reminds and encourage us the fundamental of relation between artist, art and society where artists’ expression is an instrument of unheard voices of our society. Through the art making, the visual expression is where the process of emotions, ideas and thoughts are articulated, art helping people to extend their understanding of existence between self in relation with environment in better term.

During these two unprecedented years where pandemic Covid-19 acclaim as the most dreadful spreadable virus at our time, it wreaked on the wretch of earth to give up normal livings’ and daily routine. When our bodily experience on social engagement, freedom of mobility, world values and understanding overturned and collapsed within a month after the pandemic outbreak globally. While we haven’t managed to internalized the situation, we are forced to adapt and commit to borders lock down for security reason. People are grieving to face daily basic needs crisis especially support of finance, food, health and education. Apart or worst, lost from someone we love, somewhere we work and the land that we cherish during this time, our humanity and sanity are greatly tested.

The 18 artists in INSANTIF exhibition has brings us comfort, positive vibes and motivation to encounter our traumatic situation. The diverse genre of artworks on photography, sculpture, drawing and paintings included the thematic of landscape, abstract and abstract expression, naïve and social commentary. The artists bring the flair of nostalgic memories, solemn, pure hearted positive energy and even prayers to console and salvage. These subject matter and visual images may seem lame in contemporary, but it is the most moment we missed during lock down, the smell of woods, greens, mud and the fruits from nature horizon. The eccentric vibes of vibrant colors, texture of brush strokes and the materiality of the artworks. The pure joy of celebrating the art expression of gratefulness, being and life which we all taking for granted before art and culture sectors are greatly neglected at this moment. Quote by Herbert Read, “Art is the pattern informed by sensibility. ” And “the most general law in nature is equity – the principle of balance and symmetry which guides the growth of forms along the lines of the greatest structural efficiency.”

INSANTIF shows an equity and sensibility of art and the artists who capable to formulate the ideas and dreams. It is bravery to those who still able to dream and keep moving forward, the arts shall be part of the essential sector to our current deprived condition. If not materially but mentally because artists have the outstanding strength and resilient to beat stream. Thus, art create balance to the society when the unheard voices are delivered. ”And“ the most general law in nature is equity – the principle of balance and symmetry which guides the growth of forms along the lines of the greatest structural efficiency.”
