Bike share Program
ELIGIBILITY
Bicycles may be checked out to all current ESU students, faculty, staff who have an active membership at the Student Recreation Center. All borrowers must complete a bicycle borrow agreement upon rental.
ESU reserves the right to deny rental to anyone who has a history of borrowing bike abuse. This may include borrowers whose bike: required frequent maintenance for damage not due to normal use, was excessively late without notice, had been stolen due to improper lock use, or had similar issues.
CHECK OUT & RETURNS
Bikes can be checked out for up to 7 days. All bikes are checked out on a first-come, first-served basis from the Student Recreation Center and include a bike, helmet, & cable lock. Bikes will be fitted to each rider to the best of the bike's ability.
Borrowers must return their bike within 7 days to the Student Recreation Center front desk during operating hours. Do note that there is a 24 hour wait time before checking out another bike.

COST & FEES
BORROWING RATES
Free – up to 7 days
DAMAGE FEES
All damage fees are charged directly to each borrower. Fees due to damage will not exceed $250. To pay for damages the Student Recreation Center accepts cash, or by request can put a hold on your student account which would be paid online. The bike share program does not currently accept credit cards. Those owing money for damages will not be able to check out a bike again until the fees are paid in full.
LOST/ STOLEN LOCK OR HELMET
Borrowers will be charged $20 for a lost/ stolen helmet and $29 for a lost/stolen lock.
LOST/ STOLEN BIKE
Borrowers will be charged $350 to replace bikes that have been lost or stolen. If a borrower’s bike is found/ reclaimed you will be charged the $5 a day late fee, for the number of days it was missing, up to the $350, and the remaining cost will be refunded. Borrowers may be charged for damage caused during theft that was due to improper lock use. Bikes not returned after 7 days will be considered Lost/ Stolen.
LATE RETURN
For bikes not returned by the end of the 7 days, borrowers will be notified and a hold will be placed on their student account until the bike is returned.
MISCELLANEOUS ISSUES
BREAKDOWNS
Bikes that have mechanical issues or are not operating to the borrower’s satisfaction should be brought to the SRC during bike check-out hours. If available, a replacement bike will be made available for borrowers whose bikes cannot be fixed in a timely manner.
THEFT
Stolen bikes should be reported to the Student Recreation Center and ESU Police Safety as soon as possible. The SRC will be able to provide you with your bike's identification number for the ESU Police and Safety's theft report. Once a report is filed with ESU Police, the report number should be submitted to the Recreation Center. Because all borrowed bikes include a cable lock, bike theft will result in additional fees.
PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE
All borrowed bikes will be inspected and tuned-up as outlined in the SRC’s Maintenance Policy document prior to its first borrowing and upon return from any borrowing.
RECOMMENDED LOCKING TECHNIQUE
Always lock your bike to a solid object that it cannot be lifted over.
Lock your bike in a well-lit area with high foot traffic.
Make sure what you lock to can’t be cut.
Lock according to value - frame first, then back wheel, and finally front wheel.
Get the tightest fit possible! The less room inside of the chain, the more difficult it will be for thieves to use their tools.
CAMPUS REPAIR STATIONS
Fix your bike on the go with ESU Bike Program fix-it stations around campus.
A well maintained bike lasts longer and is easier to ride than a neglected bike. Check to make sure your tires are properly inflated, your brakes work, and your chain can move smoothly before riding. Airing up your tires and lubing up your chain are easy enough, but if you don't feel comfortable working on your bike take it to a local bike shop.
If you own a multi-speed bicycle and it's been awhile since your last ride, it is a good idea to run through your gears. You don't want to get stuck going up a hill to find that one of your gears skips or derails your chain.
There are three fix-it stations on campus. Each station has a bike stand, air pump, and tools for making minor repairs. A great quick fix solution. On the side of each station is a QR code, which enables smart phones to view maintenance videos.
