On March 31, students will view a crash scene in front of the school. They will be back inside at 12:15PM.
Throughout the 31st, the Grim Reaper will enter classrooms every 15 minutes and select a student victim, known as the “Living Dead”. This time period represents how often someone is killed in an alcohol-related accident. As students are pulled from class, a police officer will read each student's obituary written by their parents. At the end of the school day, the Living Dead, crash victims, and drunk driver are taken on an overnight retreat to enhance the learning experience.
On April 1,SENIORS will enter the auditorium at 9:30AM. They will experience a “funeral” type ceremony while all classrooms show a broadcast of the ceremony. The ceremony will end by 10:30am.

Flu Season
We have had several cases of Influenza this week. Please be aware of symptoms and keep your student home if showing those symptoms. Although it typically peaks in February, it does last from September through MAY. Therefore, it is recommended that you get your flu shot as soon as possible (sooner is better than later). While flu vaccines are not always 100% effective in preventing illness, studies show they do reduce the risk of flu-associated hospitalizations, deaths, and prevent severe illness/symptoms if you do get sick (CDC).
Attendance
Please be mindful of FISD policy that students may not attend school if they have a fever (100.0 or higher) and cannot come back until they have been fever free for a full 24 hours without medication. Please keep your child home when they are ill to prevent spreading these infections while at school, sporting events, and other public places.
Flu Symptoms
Please familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of the flu and keep your child home if they exhibit them and seek medical treatment as early as possible. Influenza usually comes on suddenly and may include:
fever
headache/body aches
fatigue
cough/sore throat
runny/stuffy nose
nausea
It is important to note that most people with the flu do NOT have all symptoms, and may only have a few. A common cold is usually milder, comes on gradually, and may include cough, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose but rarely causes fever, headache, body aches, or fatigue.
Prevention Measures
The single most important way to avoid spreading illness to others is to WASH YOUR HANDS!
Parents should consider having their families vaccinated against the flu.
Stay home when ill to avoid spreading germs and illnesses to others.
Practice coughing/sneezing etiquette to help stop the spread of germs:
Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze and wash hands!
Put your used tissue in a waste basket.
If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve, not your hands
Contact the nurse if you have any concerns: Beth Evans, BSN, RN 469-633-6608 or EvansT@friscoisd.org
In FISD, school counselors have traditionally served as the link between struggling families and outside resources. But with limited time and more students and families in need, the District dedicated $2.1 million in federal COVID-19 relief to provide additional support.
School support specialists are able to take a personalized, hands-on approach to assisting families, and the majority are licensed social workers who are trained to provide ongoing support.

Strong leaders are made, not born. Leadership principles are learned, not inherited. Through Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), “Leaders of Tomorrow” have a forum for teamwork, communication, and consensus-building in an environment that challenges personal and team responsibilities. This multi-day leadership skills summer camp annually provides approximately 185 outstanding high school student leaders with opportunities to expand and hone their leadership skills through cabin activities, athletic events, educational workshops, and team-building exercises.
RYLA campers are high school juniors who have excelled in one or more areas of high school involvement and have proven leadership potential. Last year, all 65 clubs in Rotary District 5810 recruited from approximately 90 area high schools for camper scholarships. Interviews were conducted from over 1500 student applications.
Please see a counselor if you are interested.
