We appreciate all of the families, students, officers, and first responders who made the "mock crash" Shattered Dreams program so impactful and personal. Following the crash scene, students attended a funeral service, designed to remind students that a single decision can impact one for life.
YouTube links are provided to share this experience with our LT community.
Our semi-annual blood drive will be happening Wednesday, April 13th. Each donor has the opportunity to donate one pint of blood which can save up to three lives, whether it be patients of nearby hospitals or victims of unfortunate disasters. Community members, teachers, and students are able to donate. Seniors who donate twice in their senior year (or have an adult donate) are eligible for a Carter BC honor cord.
Click here to sign up to donate blood! (If you do not have your donor ID number, sign in as a guest)
16-Year-old Donor Permission Form (English) (Spanish) Donors must be at least 16 years old, and students under the age of 17 require parental consent.

Are There Any Risks or Side effects?
Possible effects: feeling faint, lightheaded, dizzy, etc. due to the blood and fluid taken. However, these symptoms usually resolve quickly as your body immediately begins working to replace the lost fluid and red blood cells.
Before donation:
Have a good night’s sleep the night before
Eat healthy foods (avoid fatty foods like hamburgers, fries, ice cream)
Drink EXTRA fluids in the days and morning leading up to your donation (drink an extra 16oz of water before appt.)
After donation:
Sit and rest for a few minutes
Avoid strenuous physical activity such as hard workouts, heavy lifting, or athletics/games for the rest of the day
Consume iron-rich foods (red meat, fish, poultry, beans, spinach, iron-fortified cereals, raisins, and more) to help your body replace the lost blood.Questions?

Independent Study and Mentorship (ISM) Final Presentation Night is the culminating event of students’ year-long study of a topic of their choosing.
After conducting extensive research and interviews with professionals, students have obtained a mentor and spent the spring semester developing an original product which benefits society, their career field, or provides foundational learning for a future career. There will be a come-and-go showcase where the community can engage with all students and a casual informal manner about their accomplishments on Tuesday, April 19th, from 6:15PM - 7:45PM. At 8PM students will complete their Final Presentation about their ISM journey.

GPA OPT-OUT
In order to encourage commitment and retention to a Fine Arts or Athletics program for a full four years and encourage participation in the upper level courses in these areas, students have the option to exclude from the weighted GPA calculation one credit course each year - in grades 11 and 12. This allows juniors and seniors who are on track to meet all graduation requirements to participate in the following programs in the third and/or fourth year on a GPA-exempt basis. This option should only be considered by students who have a weighted GPA of 5.0 or greater.
The eligible single courses include the following:
Theater/Tech Theater
Dance/Drill Team
Cheerleading
Band (Not to include ensemble)
Color Guard
Choir
Orchestra
Athletics Manager (Does not include off-campus PE)
Athletic Trainer
To exclude a course from the weighted GPA calculation, students must have two years of participation in the single program of interest in two previous school years during high school. Students must complete the "GPA OPT-OUT" FORM by the deadline of April 15th to request an exemption for next school year. The exemption form can be found in the student portal under the “GPA Opt-Out” tile. The GPA exemption in Fine Arts only applies for areas of Fine Arts that do not contain options for weighted credit; thus Art is not an eligible area (Advanced and AP Art courses are available in the four-year pathways). See the 2022-2023 Academic Guide for information. All information regarding GPA for Rank can be found in FISD's GPA for Rank Policy.
