On November 3, 2017 Maxwell presented a special cultural event called “La Noche Latina”. The event took place during a time when the school was celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and studying the traditional Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos). To enhance this cultural learning experience, we studied the differences of this celebration with the U.S. custom of Halloween to create a comparison between two cultures. Additionally, in making content connections, students were introduced to the elements of dance. Students were able to watch the performance of a traditional Mexican dance performed by a group of peers. The entire school then danced to the U.S. song Thriller from Michael Jackson as part of this intercultural celebration.
