Why Make Art

Directions

In your journal you will respond to these questions after watching a ted talk of your choice. After, you will be grouped by the TED talk you select and your group will workshop ideas for a project inspired by the TED talk and your discussion with your peers. The key here is that you have to take with the artist said and make it YOUR OWN. Make it make sense for you and your vision/ life experience/ art. 

PICK 5 QUESTIONS TO RESPOND TO THAT MOST REFLECT THE VIDEO YOU WACHED

1. How did the TED talk inspire or challenge your perspective on art and creativity?

2. Identify the key concepts or ideas discussed in the TED talk and explain how they relate to your own artistic practice.

3. Consider the speaker's experiences and journey in the art world. How might their story influence your own artistic journey?

4. Reflect on any specific techniques, materials, or processes mentioned in the talk. How might you incorporate these into your own artwork?

5. Discuss any connections between the themes of the TED talk and your current art projects or portfolio. How can you apply what you've learned to enhance your work?

6. Explore the role of innovation and experimentation in the TED talk. How can you integrate these elements into your creative process?

7. Consider the societal or cultural implications discussed in the talk. How might these impact the way you approach and convey your artistic messages?

8. Reflect on the challenges or obstacles highlighted in the TED talk. How can you overcome similar challenges in your artistic endeavors?

9. Evaluate the importance of storytelling in the speaker's message. How might you incorporate storytelling into your own artwork to engage viewers?

10. Share your thoughts on the overall impact and relevance of the TED talk to the field of art. How might the ideas presented influence the future of art and artistic expression?

ART MAKING PROCESS (Complete after Group Discussion)

1. Create a mindmap in your Journal of key themes that came up in your written responses and in your group discussion. (See here for inspiration on more creative ways to mindmap)

2. Create a Pinterest board of at least 20 images that capture the style you are drawn to for this project

3. Create a storyboard in your Journal of the 5 photographs OR 2 digital art images that you will create for this project. Under each storyboard make a list of specific equipment you will need (for digital art a list of specific techniques or photographs you will need to create your piece)

4. Create your photographs on campus or at home. Class time should be used for shooting, editing, or compositing in Photoshop. Upload all 5 (0r 2 Digital Art) to your website and include a 300 character statement for each photo (see below)

Process: How did you take the photo, how did you edit the photo, etc) (100 characters)

Ideas: What motivated you to take photos of this subject/ edit the photo in this way? (100 Characters)
