We are fortunate to have at the school a nifty set of light painting tools.
Before getting into techniques and using the gear, though, you'll need to brush up on some techniques.
Here is the main website that has many links to useful tutorials:
https://lightpaintingbrushes.com/
Under "TUTORIALS", you'll see a number of useful videos. Here are three to get you started:
Using the gear
Basic light writing technique
Spirographs
Because many of these techniques are new, it's important to spend some time looking at both tutorials AND examples. If nothing else, check out the Lightpaintingbrushes Instagram feed (linked on the site above).
PROJECT: LIGHT PAINTING
Your goal is to design, direct, and shoot TWO light-painting images. They should both include multiple tools/layers of light and at least one should include a subject illuminated/frozen with a flash.
The criteria are as follows:
- Please use a variety of the tools available to you (opaque light writers, black or white fiber optics, light sword, plexiglass)
Remember to shoot on M (manual) mode and set the shutter speed to "TIME". Press the shutter release button once at the start of the exposure and again at the end to complete it.
You should definitely develop your images further in Lightroom. (i.e. shoot RAW!)
