1) INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOSHOP
Before we get into using Photoshop, here's some really cool perspective on the idea of "layers" in graphic art. The same concept behind Disney's invention is what makes Photoshop such an effective piece of software. In Disney's case, the animation crews used actual physical layers of glass. Fortunately, your layers are all digital and can be manipulated with the click of a button!
In our first project using Photoshop, you'll learn a number of basic but important skills and commands.
Photoshop skills learned:
- How to open an image
- How to save a .psd (Photoshop Document) file
- How to zoom in and out of an image
- How to undo actions and use the History window to correct errors
- How to crop an image into a square shape
- How to manage, create, and duplicate layers
- How to change the canvas size of an image file
- How to use the Transform tools to flip an image horizontally or vertically
- How to use a simple Adjustment Layer to adjust brightness or colour
- How to export a Photoshop project as a .jpg file
2) PROJECT 2: MIRROR IMAGE (including video tutorial)
For this project, you need to download ONE (1) image from a Google image search. The image needs to feature lots of lines, colours, shapes, etc. (see examples below).
You will take that image, open it in Photoshop, and through a series of steps (covered by your teacher live in class OR in the tutorial video below) you will duplicate & flip it both horizontally and vertically. The result will be an interesting surreal effect similar to that of a kaleidoscope.
HOW TO HAND IN:
1) When finished in Photoshop, save your file to your Photo 10\COM1005 folder. Use the File > Save As command and save it as a .psd file first, then do it again but save as a .jpg file. GIVE IT A DIFFERENT NAME FROM THE ORIGINAL so you don't overwrite the original.
2) Open Google Classroom and find this project there.
3) Upload both the original image AND your final image (both .jpg) to Classroom by selecting Add > File.
4) Open the attached self-evaluation rubric (on Classroom ) and fill it out.
5) Click TURN IN in Classroom. That's it; you're done!
