The President is responsible for the External Relations of the National or Local Group. External Relations encompasses all interactions and cooperation with external stakeholders. In practice, this covers a number of different activities, which can be distinguished:
Planning the development of the organisation in the area of external relations;
Maintaining contact with current partners;
Searching for and conducting negotiations with potential partners;
Evaluating cooperation regularly; and
Providing support for ELSA's projects.
Therefore, this work requires skills of strategic thinking, negotiation, effective communication, public speaking, efficient time management and task delegation. In terms of external relations, the President works with all members of the Board to cover the various needs of the organisation:
IM: external support for the training system as well as increasing the attractiveness of membership by diversifying the offer of exclusive benefits;
FM: ongoing control of revenues and expenses to ensure financial stability;
MKT: image presentation, appropriate communication strategy and creating promotional plans; and
Key Areas: diverse support for projects and initiatives.
In order to ensure uniformity and avoid conflicts of interest, the definitions and procedures to be followed as well as the long-term planning system have been introduced. Therefore, it is important to understand the different categories of contacts and the procedures that must be followed when establishing communication and cooperation with external entities.
