English Language Programs

The English Language Institute (ELI) of the University of California San Diego’s Division of Extended Studies offers a wide range of short-term, custom, and intensive English language programs for all levels of proficiency. Courses are designed to help students improve their oral and written communication skills. Courses range from 2 to 8 weeks. Students can choose programs that are 10, 15, 20, and 25 hours per week, depending on their goals.

Programs include academic English, conversation and fluency, communication and culture, test preparation, graduate school preparation academy, business English, medical English, and legal English. The ELI provides students with a dynamic campus experience to learn, connect with international students and professionals, and engage with UC San Diego’s many world-renown resources.

The ELI’s highly experienced and caring international student services staff help with every aspect of studying abroad, from housing and transportation to health and welfare to cultural activities and events, to immigration and academic services. Our warm and friendly instructors each hold graduate degrees in language teaching and have expertise in assisting students with reaching their English language academic and professional goals.

Scholarships / Financial Aid

Our institution does not currently offer scholarships for international students; however, we do provide institutional discounts for our English Language Institute programs.
