Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE)
Since 1967, OPIE has been a recognized leader in English language teaching and teacher-training. Throughout its history, OPIE has hosted a variety of English education and training programs for students and professionals from across the world. OPIE faculty have lived and taught abroad and understand adjusting to life in a new culture. OPIE classes feature communicative language teaching methodology. We want our students to actively participate.
The OPIE consists of five levels of English study: Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced, Bridge-CS1 and Bridge CS2. Students typically have 16 to 20 hours of class instruction per week. To supplement their classroom instruction, OPIE students can attend other activities such as weekly conversation hours, academic lecture series, and university events.
Classes are usually 14 weeks (one semester). The tuition cost is $6,627. OPIE also has special programs, which allow students to study just 4 weeks. The tuition cost is $1,767. Additional weeks of study cost about $442. Classes start in the morning and finish in the afternoon.
Students who would like a degree at Ohio University can study in the Pathway Program, which combines OPIE English and academic classes.
