Since its founding in 1884, Temple University has evolved into an international, higher-education powerhouse and a top-tier research institution with roughly 40,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students. The university has the advantages of a large university—lots of choices and opportunities—but maintains a small school feel. The university’s dedicated International Students Affairs Office is committed to providing exceptional support from application through graduation.
As the largest university in one of the nation’s most iconic cities, Philadelphia, Temple prepares students from across the globe to be future leaders in a wide variety of fields. Students share a common drive to learn, develop their careers and make a real impact.
Continuing enhancements at Temple have elevated the university’s capabilities across its 17 schools/colleges with impressive results. Temple is an R1 Carnegie Classification Doctoral University (highest research activity among 4-year universities), placing it among the most active research universities in the nation. Some other milestones include a recent Rhodes and Goldwater scholar.
Temple’s bustling Main Campus, close to downtown Philadelphia, serves as the university’s pulse, connecting students to real-world experience—research and internship opportunities. Green space, athletic facilities and eclectic architecture ranging from the historic Temple Performing Arts Center to the state-of-the-art Charles Library make for a dynamic residential setting. Temple’s NCAA Division I athletic programs and 350+ student organizations thrive on campus.
As Philadelphia’s public university, Temple serves as a gateway to the world with long-standing international campuses in Tokyo and Rome and study abroad opportunities across six continents.
