Weeks 1-4 (4th-29th October): 3D Paper Objects
Hi Preps,
For weeks 1-4 we will be creating three dimensional things out of 2 dimensional paper. Two dimensional (2D) means flat, and three dimensional (3D) means something that has height, width and depth. Hope you enjoy!
Materials:
-A4 Paper
This week we will learn how to make a paper aeroplane and a bit about how they fly! They are fun to make and even more fun to fly. Remember, when you fly your paper aeroplane, you need to ask for your parents permission.

Before you start making your aeroplane, tell someone in your family what 'thrust' and 'lift' is.
Watch the video again, pressing pause as you make your own.
Ask your parents if you can test your aeroplane
If the aeroplane doesn't work well, try changing the way you throw (thrust). If it's still not working, check if the aeroplane is made accurately. If it is not, re-make it
Photograph and upload your aeroplane onto Seesaw
Extension: Colour in your aeroplane or, with an adults assistance, look up more paper aeroplanes to make.
Good luck!
Learning Intention:
To understand how an aeroplane works
Success Criteria:
I can identify what thrust and lift is
I can describe the processes of making a paper aeroplane
I can create a paper aeroplane
I can test my aeroplane. If it is not working well, I can practice my throw (thrust) or re-make it even neater! (Feedback and Feedforward)
Materials:
-A4 Paper of any colour
-Scissors
-Pencil
This week we will learn how to make a paper 3D sculpture! The sculpture will make an awesome ornament and will teach you how to accurately follow instructions, cut and fold.
Have a look at the picture of the sculpture. How do you think it was made?

Lets think, he folded the paper in half, drew lines on the paper, cut out the lines, then folded the strips to the other side of the paper
Get all your materials ready.
Re-watch the video, pausing as you make your own 3D sculpture. Remember, the neater you cut and fold, the better your artwork will look.
Extension: Notice how the artist made more 3D sculptures at the end of the video? Try making one of them yourself!
Photograph your artwork(s) and upload them to Seesaw!
Good luck :)
Learning Intention:
To advance my cutting and folding skills
Success Criteria:
I can identify why it is important to cut and fold neatly when making an artwork
I can describe how to cut and fold neatly
I can cut and fold neatly
I can think, is my artwork looking neat. If it is, fantastic! If it isn't, what do I need to do to improve it?
Materials:
-Paper (colour if you have it)
-Glue
-Marker
Have you seen a paper chain before? They are often used as ornaments to celebrate something. Today we will use a paper chain to create a snake!
Have a look at the picture of the paper chain snake. How do you think it was made?
Watch this video: https://video.link/w/4DUBc
If this link didn't work or if you want to pause the video, then watch through this link that has ads:
Notice how the artist had sticker eyes? How can you make eyes for your snake without sticker eyes?
Re-watch the video, pausing as you make your snake! You can use any colour paper. If you only have white paper, maybe you could draw designs on your paper?
Once you have finished, photograph and upload to Seesaw.
Congratulations! You have finished your paper snake :)
Learning Intention:
To improve my fine motor skills
Success Criteria:
I can identify what neat and accurate construction looks like
I can describe how I am going to construct my snake neatly and accurately
I can use my thinking and fine motor skills to neatly and accurately construct
I can fix up my artwork (refine) once I have finished it to make it even better
Materials:
-2 colours of paper. If you don't have colour paper, with a pencil, colour in one of your pieces of paper
-Glue
-Sticky tape
-Scissors
-Marker
This week we will make our most challenging artwork this term! It is another snake, but I think it looks even better than the last. For this task, you will need to watch and listen very carefully! You will need your best focusing skills, especially when the artist weaves two strips of paper together. Hope you enjoy :)
Have a look at the picture of the paper snake. How do you think it was made? I know I couldn't work it out until I watched the video.

Notice how the artist weaved the two strips of paper together? At first it might be a bit confusing, but once you get the hang of it it becomes AWESOME!
Re-watch the video, pausing as you make your snake!
Once you have finished, photograph and upload to Seesaw.
Congratulations! You have finished your advanced paper snake :)
Learning Intention:
To follow instructions very carefully by focusing
Success Criteria:
I can identify what focus I need to follow complex instruction
I can describe how I am going to focus
I can use my focus skills to neatly and accurately construct
I can fix up my artwork (refine) once I have finished it to make it even better
