Hi Grade 1's. For the first 4 weeks of Term 3 we will be learning how to create different types of pop-up cards. Cards are a great way for us to express how we care about our family and friends. Right now, this is very particularly important. At the same time we will learn a lot of skills!
Each week once you have made your card, you need to take a photo of it, send your photo to Seesaw in the Art folder so Mr Hudson can give you some feedback, and show it on our Zoom meeting. Once you have done this you can write in the card and send it to someone special in your life.
-A4 Paper. If you have different coloured paper then great. If you don't, you can always use pencils to colour the paper in the colour you want
-Textas, colour pencils etc.
-Grey lead pencil
-Scissors
-Glue
-Please note, you don't need google eyes, you can always just draw eyes yourself :)
-Ruler
-Excellent self-regulation/amazing focus so you can follow the video tutorials really well.
-Excellent cutting skills. We need to be really accurate. Practice makes perfect.
-Accurate drawing skills.
Press pause on the video you are following a lot. This will help you follow the steps.
Use lots and lots and lots of glue to make sure things stick really well!

Set yourself up with all the materials you need.
Create your sun just like the video shows you.
Rule up where you need to cut the blue paper. Remember, you can colour in white paper with blue.
Cut the slits
Glue on your backing paper
Glue on your star
Create your rainbow and clouds and paste
Look at your 'finished' card. Is there anything you could refine to improve it. Is there any detail you would like to add?
Congratulations, you have finished! Photograph your card and upload it to Seesaw and show it at our next Zoom meeting.
Learning Intention:
To develop card construction skills, techniques and knowledge
Success Criteria:
I can identify skills and knowledge for accurate cutting, drawing and construction
I can describe what techniques I will need to construct this pop-up card
I can apply my skills skills, techniques and knowledge to the accurate construction of a card
I can reflect on what has worked well and what I could improve (self-feedback) and think of actions I can do to improve my card (feed-forward)

Create your green grass and yellow circles with a cup.
Fold your circles in half and glue together with beak.
Fold your card in half.
Paste your grass and bird body onto your card.
Create and add your bird feet, legs and wings.
Add the eye and create your little bird at the front.

Create your fan shape. Watch very carefully how accurately the artist does this.
This next step might be challenging as its really hard to see the artists pencil marking. Notice how the artist folds the fan in half and uses it to help her create the body shape. Once you are happy with the body shape, cut it out.
Glue the body onto the fan (peacock feathers) and use something to hold it down firmly to help the glue take effect. This could be a paper clip or heavy book.
Create the beak and eyes. You could create the eyes out of paper.
Fold your card in hale, create the legs and look very carefully where the artist glues the legs.
Glue the peacock onto the card.

OK everyone, here are your options of what to do this week:
Create a card from the previous weeks that you haven't had time to do or would like to create again.
Find a new card to create.
If you would like to create the same card again, here is what to do:
Pick your card you would like to recreate
Think about what went well and what didn't go well (feedback)
Think of what you will do differently to make it even better than your last card (feed-forward)
Try your best and have fun!
If you would like to create a free choice card, here is what to do:
On the internet, type in 'pop up card video for kids'
Click on the 'video' option
Find one you like and watch the video. Think, is the achievable for me to create? If it is then collect your materials and create it. If it is a bit too difficult, repeat step 1 and 2 until you find one that you can do.
Have fun everyone. Don't forget to upload a photo of your card to Seesaw and Mr Hudson is looking forward to also seeing it at our next Zoom meeting :)

Hi Grade 1's. For the next 5 lessons we will focus on creating puppets. There is a video tutorial for each puppet. Once you have made your puppets, you can put a show on for your family. Hope you enjoy :)
Each video tells you what materials you need. Sometimes they may ask for materials that you don't have at home. That's OK, you can improvise. Improvise means doing things slightly differently with what you have on hand. Here are a few things to consider:
-If you don't have card, glue two pieces of paper together to create thick paper
-If you need pipe cleaners, replace it with paper
-If you need different coloured paper to white, colour your white paper in
-Instead of buying googly eyes, draw or make some eyes
Think of the materials you need by looking at the pictures. Now get them together in one spot.
Watch the video through to the end:

Start constructing your puppet. Remember to pause the video when the artist does a step so you can keep up.
Once you have 'finished' give yourself some feedback by thinking if there is anything you could improve. Once you have done this give yourself some feedforward by thinking of an action you could do to improve your puppet.
Congratulation, you've finished. Remember to photograph your puppet and upload to Seesaw. Also, make sure you bring it to our next Zoom meeting to share :)

If you want to, put on a puppet show for your family using some or all of your puppets :):)
Extension: Look up Indonesian shadow puppets. If you really like them, you could search for some Indonesian shadow puppet construction tutorials. Would make a great holiday project :):):)
