Hi everyone. Glade you found the Grade 6 site. Hope you are all going well at home!
It was great that 6P and 6C managed to get their Art Class in the week of 24-28 May for our first session on the unit. Unfortunately 6M missed out :(
For 6M, I have included Session 1 (May 24-28) and for 6P and 6C I have included session 2 (May 31-June 4). However, if you have the time 6M, I would like you to also complete session 2.
For this unit, we will be creating an unique intricate pen drawing. You will focus your learning on shading through line and dot. This is a style of are that was especially prominent over 100 years ago when the mass printing press was great at printing line but not tone. Thus tone was achieved through line and dot
Here are a few examples of pen drawings:

Now give it a go yourself.
Once you have done this, check out the images below using different types of 'hatching'. Now try drawing these shapes using the different hatching techniques.
In this session you will develop lots of basic ideas for a pen drawing.
This is a very important session, because you want to develop a design that you really love and are proud of. I can guarantee that there will be a few students who, half way through the unit, decide they want to re-start because they are not happy with their design. Because of this, they won't have enough time to add all the amazing detail they could have.
Therefor, it is really important that when you develop your pen design, you draw lots of drafts, and you draw them really quickly. The more options you give yourself, the higher the chance you have of have an awesome design. So the message for this lesson is don't be a perfectionist, be a creative barnstormer.
Here are a few things to consider when you create lots of drafts for your design:
-Do your designs have a clear structure?
-Are your designs considering the design principles of movement, harmony, balance, tone and emphasis?
-Would your design work really well for an intricate pen drawing?
-Does your design consider a light direction?
-Is your design challenging for you to achieve but not impossible?
-Have you developed your design and created lots of options for yourself (remember, no perfectionists when you are developing your design)
-Are you copying directly from the internet, or are you using the internet to research to help inspire your own unique design. Remember, if you copy directly off an image on the internet, you are not creating your own artwork, you are simply reproducing others artworks. This is not what a real artist does :)
Remember to bring your final design into school when we get back, that way you will be on task and ready to go!
Stay safe and have fun learning at home :)
Hi grade 6. Looks like we are in another week of home learning. That's OK, this project is perfect for it!
Now that you have created a lot of pen drawing drafts, it is time for you to select your favorite one.
Once you have done this, get the best quality paper you have at home. You can use A3 or A4 paper.
On your 'good' paper, using a PENCIL (yes, a pencil), sketch out the composition of your artwork. The composition is the main lines of your artwork. Don't press hard because later you will be rubbing the pencil out completely. The reason why you are using a pencil is so you can create the main structure of your artwork without committing yourself. Make sure you are really happy with your composition, editing it until you feel it is just right.
Once you have your composition right, go over your pencil with a pen. Make sure you are super accurate. I would recommend pressing lightly with your pen. This will give you the opportunity to control the depth of tone better later.
Once your composition is completely draw in pen, rub out all your pencil lines.
We will have a Zoom meeting on Monday, 2:30-3. If you manage to get your composition done, make sure you bring it to the meeting so help inspire all the other grade 6 kids!
