Capacity challenge

Hands-on activity
Writing activity

It's your turn to find out which container holds more!

You will need:

Hint! Use a tray or do this activity outside or over a sink as you may spill water.

Follow the steps below to find out which container holds more water. Which container has the biggest capacity?

Step 1

Step 2

E.g. "I think the yellow container will hold more water because it is taller."

Step 3

Hint! It can be helpful to use another container to fill it up.

Step 4

Step 5

Hint! The green container is not filled to the top. This means the space inside the tall, yellow container is less than the green container, as the width of this container means that this container holds more space.

Step 6

E.g. "The round, green container has a bigger capacity. It can hold more water than the tall, yellow container."

For those who like a challenge!

Hint! Try and use containers that are different shapes and sizes.

Variety of different sized food containers.
