The Hillier Lake is known for being a vibrant bubblegum pink color. The color is caused by algae and colorful bacteria. It is very salty and you cannot swim in it due to the excess of salt in it.
The lake is 600m in length and 250m in width and is surrounded by a sand dune, paperbark and healthy, juicy eucalyptus trees. The lake is a subtle, fairy floss, pink and is small and surreal. Hillier Lake is one of the largest islands in the Recherche Archipelago.
Hillier Lake is located in Western Australia on the edge of Middle Island. Its in the Goldfields of Esperance Region, off the south coast of Western Australia. Many people including tourists fly over the top of Hillier Lake just to sightsee and observe the natural beauties of the lake.
Matthew Flinders
Hillier Lake was first discovered in 1802 by British navigator and cartographer, Matthew Flinders, while he was aboard the HMS investigator who then climbed the highest peak of the mountain which is named after him today. Hillier Lake is named after a deceased crew member called William Hillier who died of a disease called dysentery while he was docked at the island.
Flights to Hillier Lake can be seen in helicopters, scenic flights and buy taking a cruise to the middle island. A total flight there takes 1 hour and 40 minutes depending on where you live. Tourists love to see Hillier Lake so that while their sightseeing, they'll see both ocean blue water and a flowing pink lake.
No living things are in Hillier Lake except micro organisms. Hillier Lake has fauna animals in a particular region, habitat or geological period. Some animals that live amongst Hillier Lake is the Recherche Cape Barren Goose which is a large grazing bird. The New Holland Honey Eater which is a honeyeater species, a silver gull also known as the seagull is the most common bird in Australia, the Little Penguin which is from New Zealand, a skink which is a lizard with more then 1,500 species and the Marbled Gecko which is native to the Southern Mainland of Australia.
Hillier Lake is actually separated by a thin band of trees potting a barrier through the ocean and Hillier Lake. Hillier lake is 10 times saltier then the ocean and is bordered and rimmed by salt.
