On the 18th of November 1678, Father Louis Hennepin discovered Niagara Falls directly in between America and Canada. The three large falls, on it's highest point, is 99 metres tall! It holds more than 2, 649, 788 litres of flowing water.
Niagara Falls is home to many creatures around the falls, living in the surrounding forests and woodland as well as in the Niagara river itself. Some of the creatures in the woodland are red squirrels, fox squirrels and many more. Some of the fauna thats found there include: the red mulberry,, flowering dogwood, sassfrass and much more. Some of the creatures that live in the river are the great white shark, peruvian penguins, piranhas and sea lions. Although these are some of the most common species to live here, there are still many more in and around the Niagara Falls.
The Niagara Falls temperature varies over the seasons. Although the climate nearly always stays the same, humid continental climate. In Summer the temperature ranges from 5-9 degrees celsius. At spring time, the average temperature is around 21-25 degrees celsius. In Autumn its around 8-22 degrees and in the winter its 0.9-2 degrees. The best time to visit is between June-August since, at that time, it has the most consistent weather.
Did you know that the Niagara Falls is the oldest waterfall in America?Also 63 year old Edson Taylor was the first person to go over the Niagara Falls in a barrel in 1901. She only had a cut and a minor concussion, many have tried since but almost al of them died in the process. In 1859 Jean Francois Blondin, was the first ever person to tightrope across all three of the falls.
Niagara Falls is very fascinating we must protect it by making sure that we don't pollute the water, take care of the creatures that live in its waters and wear biodegradable raincoats when visiting.
