The Black mamba is a very dangerous snake. Its scientific name is Dendroaspis polylepis thats also its species name. Surprisingly the Black mamba has no other name but the black mamba. This snake is known for its large size, quickness and extremely potent venom.
The appearance of a black mamba can come in many different colours including grey to dark brown, with a lighter underside. The black in its name actually refers to the inside of its mouth meaning the black mamba isn't actually black.
The black mamba has decent diet. The prey of the snake is a variety of organisms such as smaller mammals like mice, squirrels, rats and birds. They have also been found to eat other snakes such as the forest cobra.
Interestingly the black mamba's behaviour of eating is biting down on its prey and injecting venom, then releasing it. They then follow it until it dies at the that point they eat it. The way that they move is by slithering quickly in short bursts over level ground.
The black mamba live in south and east African savannas rocky hills and open woodland. They like low, open spaces and enjoy sleeping in hollow trees, rocky crevices, burrows and empty termite mounds. The black mambas have a large range including Burkina Fuso, Cameroon, Central African Republic and many more places.
The black mamba is actually the world fastest snake and its Africa's most feared snake. It's also the second largest snake, first being the king cobra. The black mamba is also both Arboreal and Terrestrial, they are more aggressive than other venomous snakes.
