The Canberra War Memorial is 35 acres large! A War Memorial is also called a tank monument or an armoured memorial. The Canberra War Memorial includes an Unknown Soldier and his tomb/grave in an area of the Memorial. The Unknown Soldier can be identified by running DNA tests to see everything about them although, they won't because it would be cruel to the other soldiers who were left behind.
The War Memorial's location is on Treloar Cres 2612. The suburb is Campbell and it is in Canberra which is in Australia's Capital. From the War Memorial, you can see the both old and new Parliament houses. They are only eight minutes by car from the Memorial. It is also near Mount Ainslie and Lake Burley Griffin which are both seven minutes by car.
The Canberra War Memorial includes many different things. Some include the Aircraft Hall, the Hall of Valour, first and second World War galleries, a commemorative area, research centre and outdoor sculpted garden. It also includes a Hall of memory, Roll of Honour, Pool of reflection and the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Altogether, there are 102 000 members names on the walls outside. These people could have done warlike services, non-warlike services and peacetime operations. There are also detection and messenger dogs. Their names were Merlin, Razz, Andy, Nova, Lucky and Herbie.
During the 1920s and 1930s the War Memorial was designed and made to remember those who were in World War one. The Memorial was opened on Armistice day 1941. This was when the world was in the middle of World War two. Those people who served in World War two are also remembered. In 1952, which was the middle of the Korean War, the Memorial's job was to remember those who passed away and served. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the building was extended. The Unknown Soldier arrived to the War Memorial on the 11th of November 1993. In 1998, the sculptured garden opened and in 2001, the Anzac Hall opened. Some other major museum upgrades and developments happened in the late 1990s and the 2000s.

Their mission is leading remembrance and understanding of Australia's war time. It's to remind people of how they served in the war to save us. The War Memoria in Canberra is made from sandstone building which was firstly laid in 1929. Although, they started building the Memorial in 1936. In 1929, they had a budget of 250 000 pounds. By 1940, In August, they had made a dome. Then in 1941, the building was complete. In total, it took five years. The architecture was Emil Sodersteen John Crust however, the person who is in charge of the War Memorial in Mr Matt Anderson. Nowadays, there are renovations going on and are possible going to last till 2026.
Some interesting facts about the Canberra War Memorial are, on the 14th of January, 2016, the memorial had it's 1000th Last Post ceremony and the second fact is, it consists of three different parts. So, the War Memorial is a fascinating place to remember those who passed away and fought in all wars.
