The main objective is to learn and use Spanish inside and outside of the classroom. We will use Descubre 1 as a textbook/online tool occasionally, but I will use various teaching methods to introduce and practice Spanish vocabulary and grammar. Instructional materials will include art, games, technology, skits, stories, music and film. Students will be speaking, listening, writing and reading in Spanish. Because this is a 1st year class, I assume that students know very little Spanish; so will not be able to speak it immediately. However, as the year progresses, my expectation is that students use Spanish in the classroom whenever possible. Culture is an extremely important part of this classroom. Students will explore the similarities and differences in culture between different Latin American and European (Spain) countries. We will learn AND sing contemporary Latino Music, celebrate different Latino holidays and do some salsa dancing before Spring break.
First year language may not be the most appropriate placement for Native and Heritage Speakers. For appropriate placement, please see the instructor before registering.
