The AP Biology course is designed to be the equivalent of a college introductory biology course and includes topics regularly covered in a course for majors. AP Biology aims to provide students with the conceptual framework, factual knowledge, and analytical skills necessary to deal critically with the rapidly changing science of biology. Content will be covered in depth and greater expectations will be placed on interpretation and analysis of information than previous biology courses. In addition, statistical analysis of data and modeling of concepts will be expected. The class is fast-paced and provides detailed coverage of the subject matter. A significant amount of studying must be completed at home to allow time for discussions, labs, and inquiry during class time. This class helps prepare students for the Advanced Placement biology exam which is administered nationally in May.
