German 1 is an introduction to the language, customs, and culture of German-speaking countries. With an emphasis on the receptive skills of listening and reading, students will learn through stories, interviews, songs, games, and daily reading. Speaking and writing skills are developed, but not emphasized until the second year and beyond.
The German Club meets once or twice a month, with an emphasis on fun activities that are relevant to the German speaking cultures and the German language.
Meadowdale High School also has a partner school in Kassel, German, and through the German American Partnership Program, a student exchange is conducted every two years.
The second, third, and fourth year German courses build increasingly on the foundations from the first year course. In German 3 and 4, students will also be prepared to continue their German studies at the college level .
