Did you know that almost 300 million people in the world speak French? And that French is an official language in 29 countries across multiple continents? Did you know that almost half of the world's French speakers live in Africa, a percentage that is projected to be 80% by 2050? Francophone culture is richly diverse with speakers all across the world.
This course is an introduction to the language, customs, and culture of French-speaking countries. Students will begin to develop the foundational communication skills of listening, reading, and speaking in French. This course emphasizes interpretive listening and reading skills through the incorporation of stories, student ideas, games, music, and other activities.
First year language may not be the most appropriate placement for Native and Heritage Speakers. For appropriate placement, please see the instructor before registering.
