This year I’ve grown as a caring and compassionate person in two important ways.
First, I have demonstrated empathy and respect by being intentional about listening to others. In AP English discussions, classmates often shared personal perspectives, and I made sure to give them my full attention. I responded thoughtfully, encouraged quieter voices to share, and tried to model respect even when opinions were different. This helped create a class culture where more people felt comfortable speaking up.
Second, I’ve worked on cultivating emotional and physical wellness for myself and others. Junior year is stressful, so I started using healthier habits like scheduling my work, exercising, and taking breaks to manage stress. I also encouraged my friends to do the same by inviting them to study together or take short walks during lunch. I learned that taking care of myself allows me to show up as a stronger, more supportive person for others.
Through these experiences, I’ve realized that compassion is not only about how you treat people in the moment—it’s also about building sustainable habits that help you and your community thrive.
