In 10th grade, I engaged in leadership by participating in a community food drive organized through our school. At first, I was only planning to donate items, but when I noticed that volunteers were short-handed, I stepped up to help with collecting and sorting donations. I also encouraged classmates to contribute by making announcements in Advisory and explaining why it mattered to support families in need.
Through this experience, I realized that leadership can be about taking action to meet a need, even when no one asks you to. It showed me the importance of service, responsibility, and being a role model for others. By engaging purposefully in this project, I felt more connected to my community and proud that I could help make a positive impact.
