Welcome to our weekly bulletin,
Assembly has focused on celebrating diversity this week and protecting ourselves and each other from radicalisation by those with extreme views. Students have respectfully reflected on why our diverse community makes us stonger and more successful and what they should do if they are concernced that someone may be a target for radicalisation.
We have been very busy...
We have bricks! The first glimpses of our exterior finish can now be seen and we have received delivery of our trial interactive screens that will aid learning in every classroom. Staff will be trained on how to use these prior to the move so we can maximise on the software they come with in every lesson.
It has been a proud moment for Durham Academy this week.
Since October, our talented team of budding engineers has been hard at work meticulously building a go-kart from the ground up, ready to race against 99 schools across the country. This week, that hard work hit the asphalt as some of the students have travelled to Northamptonshire to get some crucial test laps in! The results were nothing short of spectacular.
Elite Performance: Out of 99 schools participating, Durham Academy stood out for its precision and quality.
Flawless Engineering: Our go-kart passed every single safety and mechanical test with flying colors.
Zero Defects: With no mechanical issues reported, our students proved that their technical skills are second to none.
This milestone is a testament to their teamwork, grit, and engineering prowess. But the journey doesn't stop here—the team has officially qualified for the National Finals this summer!
Join us in congratulating our future engineers. We can’t wait to see them hit the track again!
Amazing work people and a huge thank you to the staff who have supported them and taken them to Northamptonshire.
During our last parent and carer event some of our parents requested a summary of Year 10 exams and revision materials so they could help their child at home. Mrs Anderson has since produced a one page explanation for parents and carers which will help you to help them.
As part of our Leading Parent Partnership developments you can also find an easy read version below.
A group of students has an amazing time participating in the Addams Family Experience Day on Thursday 7th May. Throughout the day, students took part in a range of engaging workshops inspired by the musical. They learned a song from the show during the signing workshop, explored scenes and characters through acting activities, and learned choreography in the dance workshop.
After lunch, students watched a live performance of The Addams Family Musical. The students were fantastic ambassadors for the school, fully engaged throughout the day, and showed excellent enthusiasm, creativity, and behaviour. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience and gained so much from the opportunity.
Thank you to Miss Tomlinson for organising this.
Last week we asked you to complete a survey on Relationships Education. Thank you to those parents and carers who have already done this. Whilst the deadline is not until July 5th, some responses have shown that parents might not know where to find this information.
The full programme for PSHCE and RSE can be found on the school website in the Personal Development section. Here you can see the full programme for PSHCE lessons including resources being used so you are aware of what your child is being taught and when.
If you missed this request last week you still have time to share your views by completing the form below. Thank you
