Welcome to our weekly bulletin,
Spring has sprung this week with our annual university residential, more visits to the site and a very exciting feature on BBC News.
We have been very busy...
More staff and students have visited the site this week, along with the BBC who were filming a piece on our Careers work with Wilmott Dixon.
Students have had VIP tours of the building and learnt about the hundreds of different jobs involved before, during and after the building work. As always our students were STARs and spoke with passion about what they have seen.
Our aim is for as many students as possible to visit the site between Spring and the opening week and this week our staff have been agreeing final room allocations, seating arrangements for the Cafe and Auditorium and getting rather excited about the new screens that will be installed in every classroom.
We have been invited to take part in a DfE funded project to support neurodiverse students during the transition from Primary to Secondary school. The project is aimed at Year 7 but we are extending the invitation to any parent, with a child without or without a diagnosis, who feels they might benefit from a chat with a specialist for support, help or guidance.
Please follow the instructions shared in this bulletin to sign up.
It's hard to believe the time has come again for our annual residential to Durham University.
Year 10 students have experienced the life of a student (well an U18 version of it!) complete with their own halls of residence.
The fully funded trip is available to all students and we strongly reccommend any child in Year 9 to start think about securing a place for next year now as places are limited.
The residential is a totally amazing opportunity to see what university life is actually like, break down barriers about who univeristy is for, the costs involved and why anyone who is able and interested should be aspirational in applying for a degree.
We can't think Durham University and their Ambassadors enough for all the preparation and hard work that goes into making this trip a success.
The students are too busy having fun at the moment but they will share more about their experiences next week.
Mr Milligan has picked up 50 Feeding Families Food Boxes this week and with the Easter holidays coming we now some of our families will be thinking about the extra meals required during school closure. If you would like a box please call in to reception to let us know and we will be happy to help.
Boxes are first come, first served and so to save you a wasted trip please contact reception first and we will keep a box for you to collect.
As usual our end of term arrangements involve saying a big 'Well done' to our students and giving them the chance to exchange achievement points for a rewards afternoon.
The School Council requested the Summer Term contains a series of off site rewards too so we have started the planning process for this.
Students will be told about the rewards in Tutor time nest week and then the reward shop will go live so they can book them.
Current totals have been used to calculate the tariff and every single students has either enough points or enough time to ensure they can access a reward.
The Department for Education have launched a new website to promote online safety for Parents and Students. Please follw this link to get some useful advice.
School will close on Thursday 2nd April and reopens on Monday 20th of April. That means attendance is expected Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week.
Our bulletin will also be sent out on Thursday next week and it will contain the timetable for Year 11 Easter Revision sessions which will be online and in person. If your child is in Year 11, the Easter holidays are not a holiday but a block of study time away from school before final lessons and preparation. They should have a revision timetable for both weeks of the Easter break and be working every day for a few hours. They have been given clear instructions on topics and content to revise and if they are in anyway unsure, they should ask their class teacher before next Thursday.
