Welcome to our weekly bulletin,
This week has been a very busy one. Students have taken part in residentials (see below), we have had multiple visitors to site, our Year 10 students have had the opportunity to be prefects and we have also been busy...
We hosted the community between 2pm and 7pm on Tuesday who had the opportunity to speak to planners, the DfE and our building contractor about their plans for our new building.
The consultation has now closed but you can still see the document below.
We were especially impressed by the virtual reality walk through of the building and can not wait for it to begin!
An amazing time was had by all 40 students and staff who travelled to the Williams F1 site.
As one of the world’s premier Formula 1 teams, we are privileged that Williams Racing once again opened their doors for our students to explore their remarkable venue in Grove, Oxfordshire.
Our students not only got to experience the F1 simulator but carried out maths and science lectures to learn about the behind the scenes development and engineering.
The students were a credit to the school and behaved impeccably during the (very long) journey, their hotel accommodation and on the William's site.
A huge thank you to Williams F1, Dr Atwal for organising it and Mr Potts and Mr Talbot for giving up their own time to accompany the students on a visit that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
Whilst 40 students travelled to F1, another two year groups were privileged to watch a live theatre production in our Auditorium!
Quantum Theatre company brought Shakespeare's Macbeth to life for Year 10 and Year 11 students. With its thrilling tale of ambition, fate, and power, the performance of Macbeth was an unforgettable experience that resonated with the themes students are studying in English Literature. It was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with the text in an immersive, live setting and deepen their understanding of one of Shakespeare’s most powerful works.
Thank you to Mrs Anderson for organising this.
10 girls from years 7 and 8 took part in the under 13 ECB Indoor Girls Cricket Competition at The Beacon of Light in Sunderland.
The girls showed excellent team spirit and performed brilliantly throughout the competition beating one of our own ALP schools in the final game. All girls were perfect representatives for the school and displayed all of our core values throughout the day.
Well done Team and thank you to Miss Chapman for arranging this.
LGBT History Month takes place from the 1st to the 28th of February 2025. February is a poignant month in LGBT history. It was chosen for LGBT History Month to coincide with the abolition of Section 28 in 2003, a policy that prohibited the “promotion” of homosexuality.
The theme of this year's History Month is activism and social change.
Students have been celebrating diversity and cheallenging prejudice in assembly and during the big question this week.
We sent 4 of our elite Mathematicians to Whitworth Park to participate in an ALP Advantage event. Being part of ALP means our students can learn and compete against other students and we can share our expertise and resources.
Coming 5th overall, our students were confident, ambitious and respectful. Well done Year 9!
If your child is in Year 11 you should have received an invitation to attend our parent/carer progress evening on Thursday 13th of February. Please ensure that you have made an appointment.
You will receive a copy of their trial exam results and an in-depth study plan (unique to your child) in order to close any gaps and secure the highest grades possible at the end of the year.
If your child qualifies for access arrangements or has a SEND plan, you will also have an appointment with Mrs Smith our SENCO and Mr Talbot who leads on year 11 support and careers.
If you have not been able to attend previous parent/carer evenings please try to attend this one as it will give you vital information about your child's GCSEs.
