Welcome to our weekly bulletin,
Our year 9 students have received vaccinations this week and we have installed new floor signage to remind students to stay on the left in our quiet and calm corridors. Our bulletin is heavily focused on careers and we have been very busy...
Our public consultation meeting has now been moved to Tuesday the 4th February 2.30pm-7pm .
There are a wide range of activities open to students during break, lunch and after school.
Please encourage your child to attend and participate. These activities not only develop life long skills but often lead to extra-curricular visits and competitions.
In addition to the clubs below; the library is always open, there is a homework club for key stage 3 in Mrs Lister's room and a study area for Key Stage 4 with Mr Kenmure.
The safe space is available with Mr Milligan and music sessions run during lunchtime too.
Year 8 students have blasted off in the STEM Road to Riat Challenge this week.
Blast Off is a four-stage STEM programme that invites secondary school students aged 11-14 to explore the wonders of space through a series of engaging activities delivered virtually and face-to-face.
Students have become space explorers and will discover the RAF’s role in space exploration. During the STEM day, students learnt about forces and the impact of drag as they navigated through a series of challenges, including designing and building their own prototypes, developing their teamwork, critical thinking and creativity skills.
A huge thank you to Small Piece and Dr Atwal.
Year 8 aren't the only students aiming for the stars. Year 9 have been learning about careers from the UK Space Agency.
Students have learnt about emerging careers, work experience, sponsorship opportunities and specifically how mathematical skills boost their chances of success.
Further information can be found here.
Our assembly has been delivered virtually this week and all students have discussed the need for respect and equality in society. They have considered why it is important to dream the impossible and take action to tackle injustice in our world.
We have looked for inspiration in Martin Luther King and analysed why his speech at the Lincon Memorial was so significant then and today.
12,000 students signed up for the first event in November on “What, actually, is an apprenticeship?”
This time students can expect to find out “How to land your dream job” – the ultimate guide to impressing employers, acing applications, and starting a career that leads from apprentice to manager.
Highlights include:
Insider tips to stand out in applications
A behind-the-scenes look from real apprentices
Live Q&A with leading employers
The chance to win live prizes up to £500!
Make sure your child logs in to find out more.
Year 10 have had a very exciting assembly this week in relation to work experience.
Work experience takes place on 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th of July. Students are encouraged to find their own placement which should be suitable in terms of health and safety and their age. Students will be given full details on how to arrange a placement and should really consider where will give them a taste of employment.
If you think you could host a placement in your place of work please get in touch via reception.
Some students have had to be reminded about staying safe outside of school this week and we hope parents and carers will reinforce this message.
School transport has the same expectations as travelling in a car. Students should remain seated and keep their seatbelts on.
Though the Academy does not organise or run transport, we always register the students on the bus at night and remind them to fasten their belts. Once they leave the site, the responsibility is on the young person to travel safely and not put themselves or others at risk by moving seats mid journey or unfastening their belt. In the event of a crash this could prove fatal.
If a student is found to be travelling in an unsafe manner, the Local Authority may issue a bus ban and students will have to find an alternative method of transport to school. Please remind your child of what is expected of them.
Year 11 students are yet to be awarded their STAR points for excellent conduct in exams this week and we will be updating STAR cards in preparation for the Prom and end of year rewards but a special mention must go to Jessica, Anna, Grace, Logan, Dylan, Matthew, Linda, Daniel, Ava, Summer and Luke who currently have over 100 STAR Card points and have really shown that they are confident, ambitious and respectful.
