Welcome to our weekly bulletin,
It's been a cold and wet week outside but inside has been full of fabulous learning and life opportunities.
We have been very busy...
Willmott Dixon are taking part in Open Doors which is an initiative delivered by Build UK. It takes visitors behind the scenes of construction sites to showcase the work that is being done and the careers available in the industry.
As part of this project we are inviting you to see our site in action!
During the visit, you’ll be able to look around key areas of the development, learn more about how the project is taking shape, and ask any questions you may have about the construction process. This is a great chance to gain a better understanding of the vision for the new school!
Visits will be available in June and the link will be shared with all parents via this bulletin.
We have also got the beginnings of a floor!
The mental health and wellbeing team were in school on Thursday with all students given access to a pop up stall in the Cafe during breaks and lunchtimes.
The team offer a wide range of services including Piece of Mind who can deliver weekly sessions to students who are struggling with anxiety or stress.
If you feel your child would benefit from this please contact your child's Year Leader.
Well done to Year 9 for completing Badminton Competition Week in Core PE – there were some fantastic efforts all round and great levels of determination on display. Super work keep it up!
A big well done to the girls who attended after school Cricket. It’s been brilliant to see so many students engaging in ECAs after school this week as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
Looking ahead to the next half term, we have an exciting opportunity for students as the Newcastle Falcons Foundation will be coming into school to deliver Rugby sessions. Any students who are interested should speak to Mr Heppell for more information.
Congratulations to Mr Heppell on securing the first 180 on the Durham Academy Oche – a fantastic achievement! Remember that Darts club is open to all students every week and anyone interested should speak to Mr Heppell or Mr Talbot.
Four Durham Academy students travelled to Parkside Academy on Wednesday to challenge other ALP school debating teams on the topic of place or people.
Mr Milligan had the pleasure of accompanying the students who then spoke to all participants to ague our points and won!
We are delighted to bring home the trophy and are very proud of Briar, Daphne, Hallie and Theo for representing the school so well.
Mr Talbot has been following up work experience forms again as we still have some students who have not yet confirmed their placement.
If your child is in Year 10 and has not yet done this please make sure they do so ASAP. The deadline has now passed and as you can imagine, many checks and health and safety assessments have to be completed so your child needs to hand in their form before half term.
We are rightly proud of our excellence behaviour on site and so when students fail to meet our clear expectations we are extra disappointed.
All students are issues STAR student points for getting it right and Reminders for getting it wrong. Please check your child's Classcharts and see what they have been up to this week. Have they been a STAR?
