Welcome to our weekly bulletin,
This week has been full of assessment, new build visits and preparation for the end of term.
We have been very busy...
Staff and students have been signing up to visit the site today and it has been amazing to see the building up close.
The glazing has seen rapid installation and our chief on site, Jeff has informed us that a slight delay in January has been caught up with thanks to some nifty software that breaks down the build into visible blocks of time and each production stage can then be plotted against simultaneous work that can be carried out to speed up the process. The outer shell is growing every day and we were able to walk on the new build to see the outside space which will serve as our break and lunchtime areas during the landscaping period.
Durham Academy produced a strong away performance to secure a 5–1 win over Wolsingham.
Zak gave Durham the perfect start, scoring twice in quick succession (11’, 17’) to put his side 2–0 up. Wolsingham responded in the 21st minute to make it 2–1, but Durham quickly restored their advantage through an own goal in the 29th minute.
In the second half, Durham remained in control. Kai extended the lead with a stunning 30-yard strike in the 42nd minute, before Harry B sealed the victory with another excellent long-range effort from 28 yards in the 70th minute.
A confident and disciplined display ensured Durham Academy ran out comfortable 5–1 winners.
Our School Council have organised a series of Comical challenges today, kicking off the Tour de Farce- a sponsored cycle to replicate lap 16. Devyn, Brooke and Gordon have done a fabulous job cycling 70 miles and we are so proud of their determination and teamwork.
Other students organised comic relief cupcakes and with the help of our wonderful kitchen team, decorated them ready to sell at lunchtime.
Mr James ran the Task Master challenge of drawing the median duck and one lucky student won a coveted prize of an Easter egg.
Mr Jackson hosted the Comic Relief quiz where students competed against each other for ultimate glory and everyone had lots of fun during lunchtime.
Thank you to all staff and students who organised or took part. Your donations will make a difference to lives of individuals and all proceeds are going to Comic Relief. Once we have counted up the final amout we will let you know the total next week.
Year 11 have completed their final Food practical exam this week and both members of staff involved with the assessment expressed great pride in the work ethic shown by the students.
Unfortunately we can not share images of the finished dishes as they are under examination conditions but we can say that students were confident, ambitious and respectful throughout and the homemade bread, pasta, mayonnaise and pastry looked and tasted fantastic!
As usual our end of term arrangements involve saying a big 'Well done' to our students and giving them the chance to exchange achievement points for a rewards afternoon.
The School Council requested the Summer Term contains a series of off site rewards too so we have started the planning process for this.
Students will be told about the rewards in Tutor time nest week and then the reward shop will go live so they can book them.
Current totals have been used to calculate the tariff and every single students has either enough points or enough time to ensure they can access a reward.
We have highlighted the dangers around car parking outside of the school gates on multiple occasions and this week there have been two near misses which have put at risk the safety of our children.
There is no safe parking on the road outside of school on the side where the garages are built. Cars that park there block the view of students who are attempting to cross at the gate and this week we have had cars attempting to turn around whilst children are crossing.
Please do not endager the life of a child by parking there.
Please park further up Bracken court where there is parking or further down the road leading to the wooden area.
Year 8 had their second session of building future skills this week when they learnt about the career journey of Joanne, our Esh Group partner. They also refelcted on their online identity and the impact posting comments and photos can have on future careers.
