We focus on fundamental skills in 6th grade: fine motor, drawing ability, and artistic technique. Students focus on answering these two Big Questions: Can I draw what I am looking at accurately? AND Am I learning how to control my hands to make the art I am asked to make?
Visual Culture is a part of any civilization throughout history. Even prehistoric people developed their own visual culture by leaving behind cave paintings. Students took a look at visual cultures from various points of history, then explored their own to express their own emotions through emoji design.
6th Grade students reviewed the concept of symbols in art. They then explored how symbols are important in Asian culture. More specifically, how symbols of luck and good fortune drive day to day living in Asian cultures. Students then explored symbols that represent good luck and fortune in their own cultures to create original vase designs seen below.
Students build upon the use of their hands while expanding their creative thinking and vocabulary through various artistic processes.
