In choosing Visual Art, you are selecting a creative, peaceful environment where young artists are encouraged to stretch themselves creatively. This semester course covers: drawing foundations, color theory, 3D art forms, general art history and the use of technology in visual arts. Although the projects change each semester, all grades will experience a combination of 2D and 3D art forms; such as ceramics/sculpture, drawing, painting and printmaking. Technology-based weekly Sketchbook Challenges are driven by class interest; recent topics have included Masters’ reproductions, anime and optical illusions.
The works of eight of our most talented students, across all three grade levels, have been selected for the prestigious honor of being featured in Durham Public School's Superintendent Showcase. These works will go on display in DPS Staff Development Center. An annual reception will take place in October to celebrate our talented artists! We will post more information regarding this event at the start of the 2025/26 school year.
Held on May 21, 2025, a variety of student artworks were on display during the spring performances of the Choral, Band, and Orchestral ensembles.
Sweet sweet artworks from our Fall 2024 Semester Students!
