Learning has to connect with the real world at large. Teaching in the classroom has to help students develop interpretative skills. Critical thinking skills help students to combat myriad crisis situations and change their approach to the topic at hand. Roleplay identifies the character in its natural empathetic self and this leads to a better, holistic understanding of subjects. Grade VIII students presented the current ‘Farm Bill Crisis’ in a democratic way infusing both government and farmers’ views on the bill to extend an unbiased study of the Bill. The presentation was part of the exit ticket strategy used by the teacher to fathom the achievement of the learning objectives of the chapter ’Agriculture’. It was presented on 10th December 2020 in the regular online class.
The students presented the parliamentary process by which the bill was implemented. The students also presented brief information on the three bills housed in the parliament. The fervour behind the protests by the farmers, the discontent over some provisions of the bill was laid bare through the role-play well articulated by the students. It was a learning moment for the students, joyous to understand the intricacies of real-world problems and solutions.
