MATH STANDARD(S): NC.3.NF.4: Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size, using area and length models, and using the >, <, and = symbols.
OBJECTIVE(S):
Reason about unit fractions to compare two fractions using the sizes of the unit fractions shown by the denominator and the number of parts shown by the numerator.
Determine if fractions to be compared have the same numerators or denominators.
Use models or number lines to explain why one fraction is greater than or less than another.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S): How do we compare fractions?
I CAN STATEMENT(S): I can explain how we compare fractions.
VOCABULARY: compare, numerator, denominator, unit fraction
MONDAY: Students will explore what it means to compare fractions. They will compare fractions with the same denominators using models and number lines. (Lesson 18)
TUESDAY: Students will use models to compare two fractions that either have the same denominators or the same numerators. (Lesson 18)
WEDNESDAY: Students will demonstrate their understanding of comparing two fractions that have either the same numerator or the same denominator. (Lesson 18)
THURSDAY: Students will review for and test on Lesson 18: Understand Comparing Fractions.
FRIDAY: Students will complete make-up work for Lesson 17: Find Equivalent Fractions. EARLY DISMISSAL TODAY!!
SCIENCE STANDARD(S): 3.P.3: Recognize how energy can be transferred from one object to another.
OBJECTIVE(S): 3.P.3.1: Recognize that energy can be transferred from one object to another by rubbing them against each other.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S): What is Chemical Energy?
I CAN STATEMENT(S): I can explain what Chemical Energy is.
VOCABULARY: chemical energy, electrical energy, heat energy, matter
MONDAY: Students will watch video: Sources of Energy. Then complete worksheet about Chemical Energy.
TUESDAY: Students will learn how to use Quizlet applet to complete Forms of Energy activity.
WEDNESDAY: Students will review for and test on Energy lesson.
SCIENCE STANDARD(S): 3.P.1.: Understand motion and forces that affect motion.
OBJECTIVE(S): 3.P.1.1: Infer changes in speed or direction resulting from forces acting on an object.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S): What causes objects to change speed and/or direction?
I CAN STATEMENT(S): I can explain what causes objects to change speed and/or direction.
VOCABULARY: motion, position, speed, constant speed, variable speed, force, constant forces, distance, weight
friction, magnetism, gravity
THURSDAY: Students will read, highlight pertinent information, and answer questions about Force and Motion from given Study Guide.
FRIDAY: Students will complete questions about Force and Motion from StudyJams! applet and given worksheet. EARLY DISMISSAL TODAY!!
POWER 45: Students will receive instruction on how to: Multiply Three Numbers (Lesson 15 from Coach workbook).
INTERVENTION: Students will receive intervention on: Understand Comparing Fractions.
