MATH STANDARD(S): NC.3.NF.3: Represent equivalent fractions with area and length models by:
Composing and decomposing fractions into equivalent fractions using related fractions: halves, fourths and eighths; thirds and sixths.
Explain that a fraction with the same numerator and denominator equals one whole.
Expressing whole numbers as fractions, and recognize fractions that are equivalent to whole numbers.
Objective(s):
Understand that two fractions are equivalent if they are the same size, cover the same area, or are on the same point on a number line.
Recognize and generate equivalent fractions using fraction models and number lines.
Explain why two fractions are equivalent by using a fraction model or number line.
Essential Question(s): How are the two fractions shown by the shaded circles the same?
I Can Statement(s): I can explain how the two fractions shown by the shaded circles are the same.
Vocabulary: equivalent fraction, fraction, numerator, denominator, unit fraction
MONDAY: Students will use models and number lines to find equivalent fractions for thirds and fourths. (Lesson 16)
TUESDAY: Students will demonstrate their understanding of equivalent fractions using fraction models and number lines. (Lesson 16)
WEDNESDAY: Students will review for and test on equivalent fractions. (Lesson 16)
THURSDAY: Students will read a word problem and answer a series of questions designed to help them apply what they know about equivalent fractions to solve it. (Lesson 17)
FRIDAY: NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS...TEACHER WORKDAY!!
SCIENCE STANDARD(S): 3.P.3: Recognize how energy can be transferred from one object to another.
Objective(s): 3.P.3.1: Recognize that energy can be transferred from one object to another by rubbing them against each other.
