Knowledge and information continuously improve over time and information technology can disseminate within a few seconds. That forces humans to regularly learn new things so they can be up-to-date and utilize that knowledge for their benefits in life. Classroom teaching and life experience learning is insufficient in the present day.
Definition of learning resources.
Learning is defined as the center of origin of material knowledge.
Importance of learning resources.
Learning resources play an important role in improving the quality of life:
They are resources of information/knowledge for purposes of learning, such as a zoo gives us information about animals and museums give us knowledge of artifacts during various periods.
There is modern knowledge media which create skills and assist students to learn quickly and easily, through the internet.
They support students in various non-formal and informal educational systems.
They are lifelong resources of human knowledge through selfinterest and capabilities.
They are resources for human to perform real practice, such as the invention of instruments and various engines repairs etc. The real practice stimulates learners’ interest in learning.
They are resources for learning the new abstract technology through the movies, video, or other media.
They are resources to promote good relationships between people in a community and raise awareness of the values for those sources.
They help students to change their attitudes, their values, to accept new things, new ideas, and become a creative person.
They help reduce expenses and increase income for the community.
Types of learning resources.
Learning resources can be classified into 6 types:
Individual learning resources refer to persons with information and capabilities in areas where their knowledge can be transferred to the interest of the community. These resources can be developed by skilled persons or specialists in various fields, experienced seniors, and officials with a government background. Their knowledges are supported by the wisdom of local citizens, wise men, folk lore, and the benefits of the Thai educational system.
Nature learning resources refer to agricultural things, which give benefits to people, such as; soil, water, air, plants, animals, forests, minerals, etc. These resources are found in national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, botanic garden, and nature educational centers.
Object categories and building learning are resources that refer to buildings, construction materials, and things such as; libraries, religious structures, learning centers, museums, firms, markets, exhibitions, and historic places etc.
Media learning resources refer to a medium that connects things and brings people together. It transfers content, knowledge, skills and attitudes to all areas of the world continuously by publishing through electronic media containing pictures and sound.
Technique learning resources refer to things that indicate the progress of technology and innovation in various fields. These are invented or improved to help people learn about progress, including having imagination, and becoming inspired in creative thinking.
Activity learning resources refer to practicing various cultural traditions, operations of government as well as the movement to solve problems and improve conditions in these activities. The result will be a concrete learning task such as; the Khatin ceremony tradition, merit fair, anti-drug campaign, promoting democratic election, promoting safety of the young and women in local area.
