Hello........ the Student Support Team at D.C.H.S. includes a wide range of people who are all here to helo you! We can't wait to meet you and get to know you all. We understand that you may be be feeling worried about joining us, so to try and help you familiarise yourself with some of our team, we invite you to look at our profiles and find out a little bit about some of us, and we will make it our aim to get to know you too.
Form Tutor
During your time at D.C.H.S. your Form Tutor will be your first point of contact, both for you and your parents. Your Form Tutor will be the person who gets to know you really well. They will help you to:
Establish routines - like any class, a form class needs consistency. They will help you to know and understand what to expect each week. Assembly will probably take place once a week. Your Tutor will read out the daily bulletin and provide you with information relevant to you each day.
Manage administration - they will make sure that uniform is correct, along with checking equipment and addressing any behaviour points students have received from other staff. They will register you each day and chase up the reasons for any absences or lateness and keep a close eye on any patterns that could indicate a cause for concern.
Create connections with home - your Form Tutors are the 'go to' person for your parents and carers, they will aim to support you as much as possible. It's a good idea to form a positive relationship with your Tutor.
Be aware of issues - Form Tutors are in a good position to spot when there is a problem. If you are are going through a difficult time or need any help and guidance, please speak to your Tutor in private. They will direct you to possible sources of advice and support, contact parents/carers if appropriate and escalate the matter if there are serious concerns.
Monitor your progress within lessons - your Tutor will 'check up' to see how you're doing across your subject areas. They will be focusing on three key areas, these include: how well you are making progress towards your targets, your achievement within lessons and also, challenge you on any negative behaviour points.
Create a sense of belonging - perhaps one of the most important things your Tutor will try and do for you, is create a sense of team spirit and belonging within your form class. They will try and get to know as individuals with the aim to creating a form class bond based around: acceptance of each others differences, celebrating success, friendship, honesty, kindness and team spirit.
