Frequently Asked Qestions

If I need to contact school about my child, who is my first point of contact?

Your child's Form Tutor is your first point of contact, they will try and support you with any of your concerns. If they are unable to deal with your requests then they will then pass it on to the most relevant person.

Can I contact my child's subject teachers directly?

Yes absolutely. However, it is a good idea to speak to your child's Form Tutor too so that they are aware of any problems that your child may be having.

How long will it take before I get a reply from a member of staff?

Please allow us a little bit of time to deal with your concerns , we have a policy in school that staff will respond within five days, if you have not had a reply in that time frame then please contact the main school office.

What do I do if I am unhappy with my child's form class?

You can contact school and let us know, however please be aware that we will not be making any changes until October, we will then review classes again in December and make any final moves then.

If I need to speak to my child urgently what shall I do?

Even though your child may have their mobile phone on them in school, please do not contact them directly. We ask that parents contact the main school office, and a message will be passed on to your child.

What do I do if I have a concern about my child being bullied?

Please contact your child's Form Tutor in the first instance and they will do all they can to address the issue.

What are 'bands'?

In Year 7 your child will have a Form Class, we have two 'bands' within Year 7. Four form classes will be in each band.  These 'bands' are given a letter, we call them F-Band and G-Band. This means that students who are in the same band will get some lessons with other students across their band for example P.E and D.T. Students will not get lessons with other children from the other bands, however they will see them at breaktimes and lunchtimes.

What lessons are set by ability?

Maths

What do I if my child is absent from school?

Telephone school every day of absence, as early as possible, please keep school informed.

If my child has a medical appointment, what shall I do?

Please avoid medical appointments in school time, but if absolutely necessary, please bring your child to school for the remainder of the day. You will need to also write a note in your child's planner to show their Form Tutor and office staff.
