Big Ideas:
Students will explore through nature journaling and investigative questioning structures and functions of the natural world around them.
Through the learning of scientific vocabulary and the visual arts, students will learn how to communicate what they observed in the world around them.
This science class will focus on teaching the skills of observation in the natural world as students learn to wonder about the environment around them. Students will learn to use nature journals to visually and verbally communicate their findings. This class will focus primarily on biology as well as some physical, earth and space science. The aim of this class is to grow students' ability to make skillful observations, connect their observations to scientific ideas, and communicate their knowledge through multiple means.
2nd Grade
Students will explore the nature around them and learn how to ask investigative questions, how to study something as a whole and its parts, and work to expand their scientific vocabulary.
3rd-4th Grade
Using investigative questions and hands on exploration, students will learn to study natural objects/phenomenon and the environment of the object/phenomenon. They will also collaborate with others to grow their ideas and practice using their scientific vocabulary.
5th-6th Grade
Students will practice using investigative questions and experimentation to make observations, connect observation to causes, and developing questions to investigate the things that they observe.
7th-8th Grade
Through quality observation and investigation students will develop hypotheses and build case studies to discover more about the natural world around them. They will learn and use scientific terms, classifications, and tools to help them as they learn.
