Weekly/Unit Class Updates:
1st and 2nd Grade:
In the 1/2 class, we will begin the year reading Charlotte's Web together. Students will be creating a lapbook based around some of the elements of a story as we introduce those concepts: characters, setting, and theme. They will leave these here as we work and then bring them home when we finish the unit in November.
10/7 and 10/8: We plan to read chapters 14-16 in class. Students do not have a personal copy, but there are many audio versions online if your student was absent and you'd like for them to stay caught up.
3rd and 4th Grade:
10/7 and 10/8: Students used a word search to find characters and settings that are important in the text. They began a word map for the word "outlaw" and discussed the first two chapters.
5th and 6th Grade:
10/7 and 10/8: Students completed a matching activity to provide a "Who's Who" of the gods and goddesses in the text. They worked in groups to summarize one chapter from last week's reading and presented their findings to the class. We then went through an introduction to STEAL characterization.
7th and 8th Grade:
10/7 and 10/8: Students celebrated the completion of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer with donuts and apples and then spent the remainder of class selecting discussion questions in order to prepare for their upcoming Socratic Seminar.
Welcome to Mrs. Grant's Literature Class at AHE!
Our goal in this class is to engage with literature as a way to understand the human experience. My hope is that students will develop a love of literature as we discuss our virtues and how they relate to the works studied, learn to recognize and appreciate literary devices, and learn to ask thoughtful questions.
