We are looking forward to seeing our students for another wonderful year in Art! We have a lot of fun projects and are so excited to create in our new space. Mrs. Lewis will be teaching 2nd, 4th, 5/6, and 7/8 classes, while Mrs. Craig will be teaching K, 1st, and 3rd. We will update this site often to keep you informed of our projects and activities.
Upcoming:
K - We will begin by observing art in nature. We will learn the color wheel, types of lines, and all about texture as we create a watercolor leaf painting. We will also make a 3D birds' nest to take home. We will read I am an Artist and Leaf Man.
1st - We will review the color wheel, texture, overlapping, and types of lines by painting a watercolor resist leaf project using glue, oil pastels, salt, and liquid watercolors. We will be reading I am an Artist and Leaf Man.
2nd - We will review the color wheel, texture, types of lines, and shapes. We will draw and paint an underwater turtle using oil pastel, liquid watercolor and salt.
3rd and 4th - We will complete a color wheel including both secondary and tertiary colors. We will introduce the Folk Art movement with a paper quilting project using Grandma Moses as the inspiration. We will then learn about contemporary folk artist Faith Ringgold, and complete a project based on her book Tar Beach.
5/6 - We will begin by reviewing the 12-step color wheel; we will then begin a unit on Renaissance Art, which will include a look at architecture and artwork of that period. We will dive deeper into both elements and principles of art this year.
7/8 - We will begin with a unit on Abstract Art, including the work of artist Paul Klee. Our first project will be creating a Word Art piece in the style of Klee, using liquid watercolor and marker. Check back for updates, makeup work, and study resources.
Parents: Keep in mind, Fine Arts Night will be in April where your child's artwork will be on display! At that time, you may take their work home.
