We are enjoying working on projects in all of our classes!  We have a wonderful group of students who are open to learning new things and adjusting well to the habits of the art room.  We are so thankful for our beautiful new space!

Currently:

K - Students are continuing our Art in Nature unit.  We have learned the color wheel, types of lines, and all about texture as we create a watercolor leaf painting.  In October, we make a 3D birds' nest to take home and begin our Henri Matisse unit.  We are reading I am an Artist and Leaf Man.

1st - We have reviewed the color wheel, texture, and overlapping.  We are painting a watercolor resist leaf project using glue, oil pastels, salt, and liquid watercolors.  We are reading I am an Artist and Leaf Man.  Coming up, we will explore the art of Henri Rousseau.  

2nd - Students have reviewed the color wheel, texture, types of lines, and shapes.  We are drawing and painting an underwater turtle using oil pastel, liquid watercolor and salt.  Up next, students will be introduced to the art of the Renaissance and create a self-portrait cherub based on Raphael's "Sistene Madonna."

3rd and 4th - We have completed a color wheel including both secondary and tertiary colors.  We introduced contemporary Folk artist Faith Ringgold and her story-quilts.  We began a mixed-media project based on her quilt and storybook Tar Beach.  Upcoming, we will create Folk Art clay face jars.

5/6 - Students began by reviewing the 12-step color wheel before transitioning into a unit on Gothic and Renaissance architecture.  We are creating a multimedia project of the Notre Dame at night.  We will be moving into studying Greek classical art and will design a vase using scratch art.

7/8 - We began with an introduction to Abstract Art, including the work of artist Paul Klee.  We are underway with our first project which is an inspirational Word Art piece in the style of Klee, using liquid watercolor and marker.  Our upcoming unit is on Surrealism, specifically Salvador Dali.
