Domestic Abuse is any type of of controlling, threatening or violent behaviour between people in a relationship, including sexual violenceby a partner or ex-partner, but also by a family member or carer. It is anything another person does that's meant cause harm.
It can happen-
inside or outside the home
over the phone or online
in any relationship even after it has ended
by any gender
It's really important to tell someone that you trust like a family member, teacher or GP. If you're worried about talking to someone you know you can call Childline on 08001111.
We know, for some children and families, home might not be a safe place and staying there will be extremely challenging. Some may already be experiencing abuse or worried an adult's behaviour is changing and escalating.
If you and your family are in immediate danger call 999. If you're unable to talk press 55 after dialing. You can also let the operator know you need help by responding to them by tapping or making a noise.
The police can also remove the person harming you from your home.
