During the Erasmus mobility in March 2025, 12 students and 2 teachers participated in an unforgettable one-week program in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, in the heart of the Basque Country. The goal of the mobility was a cultural and educational exchange, during which the participants could get to know the Basque culture and traditions in more depth.
During the one-week program, the participants had several exciting activities. The students and teachers went on trips to Bilbao and San Sebastián, where they admired the Guggenheim Museum, explored the picturesque old towns and tasted the famous pintxos, the Basque tapas. As part of their school work, the students participated in workshops and presentations with local students, where they could gain insight into the Spanish and Basque education systems.
In addition to learning about the cultural heritage and the education system, sports and the discovery of Basque traditions also played a major role. Our students visited Basque sports shows and competed in competitions. They also attended a traditional Basque dance hall, where they learned the basics of local folk dances. A special element of the program was the presentation of the carnival season and the busójárás. The Hungarian students gave a presentation about the traditions of the busójárás in Mohács, while the Basque students shared with us local carnival customs. This project helped us gain a deeper insight into the carnival traditions of both peoples.
During the week, our participants gained a lot of experience and knowledge, and the mobility successfully contributed to the understanding of international relations and each other’s cultural traditions
